win7 64bit and java have issues (slow, memleak, cpu usage). thats a java problem.
win7 32bit and jd works fine. only on 64bit it has problems. also notice that win7 is not official fully supported by java at the moment

so to fix the problem, we have to wait for java to support Windows 7 x64, right? do you know a link to where we can check on java's update support status?
also, is it possible to avoid problems by running jdownloader in 32 bit mode on Windows 7 x64? |

java in win7 64bit works for me.
But I did find JD and other java apps slow when you drag the window around. |

Ok how does one work round those issues then. I have read many many threads about the mem leakage issue and seriously have not found a working solution. So please can you post the thread link to the fix. I would really appreciate it as I am currently having to reset my PC once a day simply because of all of my mem being used. 6Gigs. Love the application so I have no interest in going anyplace else.

You could try to use the 32bit version of Java for W7 or just use a serious OS. There are lots of free ones.

 All OS are free that is true.:P Yeah maybe the extra ram is not worth the pain of other issues. Most of the games I play do just fine with 32 bit OS. Don't suppose you guys have any idea when (rough guess) full java support for 64 bit will happen? Again thanks for a great application. |

is it a vista x64 issue, or just win7 x64 issue?
has anyone tried running jdownloader in xp or vista compatibility mode and see if it fixes it? |

when i went to the java site, it just says supports windows 7, doesnt say if 32 or 64 bit. so i assume its just 32 bit. is there really a 64 bit version of java for windows 7?

its one thing what on the page is of course it works with both, but as said under 64bit there are still some issues like memleaks, crashes and slow apps (you can use boardsearch and see that most ppl using win7 64bit and java having such problems, under win7 32bit no problems at all)

Running the application with Vista sp2 compatible mode for now - I think it will be interesting to see if their is any difference. Got nothing to loose anyhow.

ok let us know how it goes and if any of the compatibility modes work better...

No joy - it slowly starts to creep up. Huge leap of memory used (of course) when unrar is happening. But does not release the memory once completed. Or at least seems to me. But really I am only guessing and base that assumption on what I was observing as it happened.
Looks like I am going to install 32bit OS again. |

java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
i just noticed that there is both an x64 and x86 java for windows 7. if you used the autodetect on java when youre using a x86 browser, it will just give you the x86 java. but you can use manual installation to get the x64 java too, and have both versions installed. would that fix the problems? |

BTW: what kind of crashes are related? minor crashes like jdownloader closing. or major crashes like blue screens and taking down the system with a reboot?

check the bluescreen message!
we speak of memleaks between java and windows7 64bit and that can cause problems for windows too. thats why i suggest to use win7 32bit at the moment till win7 64bit and java fixed this issue. this issue exists since the first beta of win7 64bit till today.

so even if we install both the 64 bit and 32 bit java on win7 x64, it will still have the same problems?

Yes - even with both Java versions installed the problem will exist. I will now try with XP sp3 compatibility mode. Will give feed back later today after the football.

we can only hope and wait till microsoft and sun will will these 64bit issues, because at the moment i can't say who's to blame. 32bit works fine .
