Unhappy File not found during download - but file is there.

During a download of a file, the connection was lost due to a timeout issue. When JD2 tried to resume the download, it declared that the file is missing.

A check of the file URL via the browser showed that the file was still there.

So I tried to do a force start, but JD2 ignored the request, because it had declared the file missing.

There are some current issues with UL, whereby all of the UL issues haven't been cleared up.

What needs to happen with JD2 is that when the user clicks on force start, do just that, even if the file was declared missing. Reset that damn flag and do it anyway. If after a few tries where the file is really missing, the user will ultimately believe that the file is missing.

I was halfway thru the download and the only way to start the download was to reset it. That deleted the file, forcing a download from scratch.

The log and a link are not necessary in this case. I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of this thread.

It is to ask for a modification to the JD2 code/functionality whereby when JD2 "thinks" that a file is not found, that flag is ignored/reset when the user clicks on "Force Download Start."

A link is useless as it currently can happen to any file that I download. You need a screwed up internet connected whereby packet timeouts occur, causing the drop of the download connection, so that JD2 attempts to reconnect and resume/continue the download.

It happened again while I was sleeping, whereby it got 99.93% of the file transferred. I had to reset the link, clearing out the almost completed file and start the download over, i.e., the file wasn't missing. A simple clearing of the flag when a "Force Download Start" would have caused a resume and download of the last 10 MiB of the file. Instead, it now has to download the 1.53 GiB from scratch.

Come to think of it, even if JD2 flags a link as "Temporarily unavailable" during a download, doing a force start should clear that flag as well.

So, please explain why a log/link is necessary for a request for a change to the JD2 functionality?

Hi
A log is necessary to see when the error happens.
This is a possible controlling bug.

While my suggestions regarding resetting a couple of the error flags isn't directly part of the submitted bug, the thread is. Is that good enough to have a program change that will reset the "file missing" and "temporarily unavailable" flags when a "force download start" is done or need I submit an enhancement request in a different thread?

I don't think the logic will be changed, when file is not available, download won't be started. Check online status, if the file is available then download can be started or resumed. The bug report request to avoid this wrong status somehow, although it's true at that moment (no connection > can not find > not found).

I can understand if a file is truly not available. But when JD2 gets it wrong, there is no way to get JD2 to reset the flag and to resume the download. As it currently stands, the ONLY way to reset the incorrect flag is to reset and clear the file, meaning that all the time spent downloading (can be a couple of hours, or more) is thrown out the window.

When a "Force Download Start" is clicked on, JD2 should actually go check to make sure that the file isn't available, instead of believing the incorrect flag.

Are you saying that by checking online status, the incorrect flag will be reset? I never knew the option existed. It isn't directly available via the right-click, so out-of-sight, out-of-mind. So, I had to go looking for it. Long-time users would know where these things are. Being a relatively new user, I have no clue where everything is.

I'm curious as to why this wasn't suggested before.

I will report back the next time I get a "file not found" or a "temporarily unavailable" happens.

UPDATE:

OK, I've tried the online status. I didn't use it on a file that I know was there, as that situation hasn't shown up yet. When one clicks on the function, there is no positive feedback that anything is happening. It would be great if a dialog box popped up indicating that the status is being checked and to report back what was found and when the box is dismissed, the main JD2 display is updated (if there is a change). I only know that it worked because I managed to pick on a file that was removed after the initial link was added to the downloads, where the file was then listed as missing. When a missing file stays missing, the user can't tell that the status was really checked.

This is about wrong offline status during or after stopping a download - nothing else!

Nothing, just saying, this is only about "file not found" during/after download!

Default File not Found error.

Hey, thank you for raising this issue. I had been suffering in silence for a while, downloading large parts of my files only to have them sit there, unchangeable by me after losing my internet connection temporarily, and having to restart them. it is frustrating isn't it, the files are there but the flag won't reset.:outch:
However the simple trick of clicking on - right click - properties - check online status, actually resets jdownloader and the files resume:biggrin:

I'm sure the prog could accommodate doing this automatically.
Every time it encounters a "file not found" error it should check its online status and thus "Force download resume" would work.

Thanks again, keep up the good work

Default No inet for a few seconds? Files omitted

I don't know if this is some configuration issue or something else. The problem is simple. I let downloading 10 files, they start perfectly, but if internet disconnects for a couple of seconds/minutes, none of the files is found and all downloads are cancelled/omitted. If internet returns again, its too late and all downloads will continue stopped.

Is there a way to configure that? like "time to wait between tries when internet disconnects" or "attempts to find a file"? I made an script that test and reconnects inet if there is no connection (**External links are only visible to Support Staff**Here), the problem is the couple of seconds in between.

Thats exactly the option, but its set to 300000 (5 min?), and when I loose connection, all downloads are "cancelled" (it says "File not found" or something like that) almost inmediatilly, one by one.
It's like my JD2 is not checking if I'm connected to the internet, or not.

With youtube and facebook links, it shows a "Connection lost" and waits 15 seconds to retry. With all the others links it shows a "File not found" and that download is like stopped.

Hello,

If the internet goes down, JD2 sometimes says "File not found." . So if you want to continue the download, you must check again and again (every time you lose connection) whether the file is online, which can become really tedious. However, with other servers as Mega, the download is stopped after a while with no messages

Ok, sorry :S

No double posts please, see the forum rules!
And where is your log?
does this happen for all servers?
do you have some links to check it?

I'm experiencing a similar issue, but without broken connection. Not sure if it has something to do with this.

Symptom:
JD reports "File not Found", but status check ("Properties" -> "Check Online Status") reports no errors. When JD tries to download the link once more (e.g. via "reset"), it reports "File not Found" again.
After restarting JD, the link can be downloaded. And it is very unlikely that the files have been re-uploaded in between.

So far, I only experienced it with Share-Online.

Maybe my log (see 2 Messages above) would also be helpful, because it covers a slightly different situation with the same symptom. If so, you may want to add it to the ticket ...

@MrVideo:

The actual problem is, that Uploaded returns a bad error response. JD uses 2 different states: "Probably Offline" and "Offline for sure".
Problem no1: Uploaded returns an "Offline for sure" response in some cases (for example connection problems.

Problem no2: The "resume" action should do what you want: Resume a download without resetting already downloaded stuff. This does not work properly

Problem no3: The "Check Online" Status gives no direct Feedback. Enable the "Availability Column" for that. I fixed this. Now, this action enables the column, and shows "Checking.." in the Task Column as well.

Thanks
