New update settings problem
Hi,
For good reasons i prefer to have the auto-update function completly disabled but now with the new settings it seems it's not possible, i tried to uncheck some lines in advanced settings but it continue to bother me, can you please give the new solution to keep this function in manual, and without any annoying balloons!? Why do not create a line in general settings or an icon like others to disable or enable it easily like all softwares??? I know it's a beta version but it would be better than having to search about complicated lines in advanced settings! Hope one day you have the desire to improve this! Thanks in advance for your responses Last edited by rrogntudjû; 01.02.2013 at 06:02. Reason: Screenshot |

Moved thread to the correct Parent thread.
Don't believe any of the default values for auto update disabling would have changed, it should all still work. Please indicate if it doesn't take screen shots and post your logfiles. To answer this question, but you might not like or appreciate the answer: We are trying to make settings less cluttered (removed tree view). Any setting which the masses benefit from and wont likely change, will be defaulted and left in advanced. Any setting which will get changed at great volume will have its presence within settings in what ever pane. We haven't added all setting back yet, like 'toolbar manager', so things still might change, but a dedicated update setting probably wont. Many default settings might change values. raztoki

You're not really answering my question, with the new service it's evident that my settings are lost and i just want to return like before. I ask to you what lines exactly must be disabled or enabled now?, because after the update to the new update service they are more which are all enabled by default. I tried to uncheck some but now each time i start JD2 i can see the green icon who check after updates and i have a popup who says update are available, and this popup reappears during the session for new update. So it means now JD2 is permanently connected to the update server and i do not want this at all.
For the second part you're right i do not understand well what is your intention, but i do not know any software that does not leave the choice to users by a simple way to turn off the update. |

With these settings - see attachment - I have questions about updates,
I didn't try Later, and unfortunately the Cancel button is missing. Try to set Updatesetting.autoupdatecheckenabled to OFF, maybe works. Last edited by bici-boci; 01.02.2013 at 07:43. |

@bici-boci
Thanks for your attention i tried what you say in first but it's exactly the same. And as you can see on my settings on screenshots "updatesetting.autoupdatecheckenabled" is already on off. |

I disable this setting and watch what happens at the next update.

I answered you in respects to the new location of settings as [declined] for the reasons I gave. Also touched on why defaults are made/set as they are. Although I never gave you solution to disable, as I wasn't knowledgeable. My default settings worked, but running JD from IDE disables the auto updater, for understandable reasons.
From a quick review of the new settings yesterday, I must say the wording needs to be refined. It's not user friendly, specially when someone doesn't understand the point of given setting or comprehends it's associated description within the popup.

@ raztoki
With all the respect i owe you i do not understand your reasons, i think what i propose should be considered. Cause i agree totally your solution in advanced settings is not user friendly at all , especially pour le plus commun des mortels like me. And especially when it don't work. Well advanced is here to stay, only settings that get changed by large volume user base or changed high frequency (as in toggle on / off multiple times a day), will either get defaults changed, or gain it's own dedicated setting outside of advanced, and even toolbar consideration. Hopefully you are using a language that you can understand and the translations are current and correct. This will surely aid your language barriers ;] Only issue with newly committed code takes a little while to be translated.

Yes,
although Updatesetting.autoupdatecheckenabled is OFF the new update available message is coming and coming. I don't want always update, if it works well for me. Please correct. And please bring back the Cancel button right next to Later, now I have to click repeatedly Later. |

This update function his completely buggy.
BUG 1: When i start JD2 i have the popup i do not want "A new update is available"and who should not appear with "updatesetting.autoupdatecheckenabled" on OFF. BUG 2: If i click on "download now" the popup "JDownloader updater" stays perpetually on 0% nothing happens i must click on "cancel" BUG 3: If i click manually on the updater icon "JDowloader updater" says "you already have the latest version". So I can't turn the update fonction in manual and worse now JDownloader bother me with incessant popups who says a new update is available but no new update is available!!!!!!!!!!! Edit: Tired now, until this beta works correctly i return to JD. Last edited by rrogntudjû; 02.02.2013 at 13:46. |

This is not closed yet.
Updatesetting.autoupdatecheckenabled works now as expected. Please test it+ To Topic: We want people to auto update as fast as possible. Daily Plugin updates are important - thus regular updates are very important for JDownloader. Many people do not know nor understand this - That's why there are autoupdates. There will be no easy quick access to disable them. Only advanced users should do this - so the options will stay in the advanced config. When JD2 becomes more stable, there will be less Core updates. Only plugin updates which can be installed on the fly - without restarting. @bici-boci: I will add another button to skip updates until next restart @rrogntudjû Bug 1: Solved Bug 2: Timing Bug. I will look at it Bug 3: I don't see a bug here

Feedback
Manual function is back, great. When someone shows understanding & intelligence & uses authority in the right direction its better. Now i'll wait after a button more user friendly if its possible, many thanks coalado...
