Lightbulb What is Nightly and where do I get it?

Our so called "nightly" version is NOT meant to be a public release.
The nightly Version is a developer version only which enables us to test the latest source in "live-conditions" (updatesystem, dlc, packaging,...)

Thus, it often contains serious bugs.

DO NOT USE OR EVEN UPDATE TO NIGHTLY UNLESS WE TELL YOU TO DO SO!

Another possibility to get the NIGHTLY-Version is to:

1. Create a new text document (eg. .txt) in the JDownloader-Folder
2. Write:
Code:
 java -jar jdupdate.jar -branch NIGHTLY
into it
3. and save the document as a .bat file

Now just execute it...

It worked for me using the method posted by Minos.

The new GUI looks sweet. BTW, what should I do when the next stable release comes out to stop updating from the nightly branch?

I solve my problem.
Just install jre-6u14-windows-i586.exe and work fine.
With jre-6u16-windows-i586.exe cant update JD through proxy.
maybe JDProxy.class dont work on java 16 update.

To Use Proxy in public version you have to use 1.6_14 or earlier

in the current nightly, it does not matter anymore

everyone can test and use nightly but remember it's for testing and can sometimes have issues, not start at all or other problems. dont cry if something went wrong, just report it

Besides the Nigthly you can also run SETI@home (hXXp://setiathome.berkeley.edu/)

Default There are scripts for Nightly and Stable

Under Windows, there is a batch script windows_ALPHA.bat that converts your JDownloader to Nightly. The script is in the JDownloader directory.

To change back, use the windows_STABLE.bat script.

I suggest looking at http://board.jdownloader.org/showpos...11&postcount=2

-------------------------------

Right now (December 2009), NIGHTLY and STABLE have the same plugins, so support of a host is the same. The team hasn't told us if this will continue in January 2010.

Yes, 10.535 was this week. We get new nightly builds at least as often as there are plugin updates. Sometimes we test a new feature and it is gone in the next release.

You shouldn't use Nightly if you do not have to or you are a very experienced computer user with some sys-admin background.

@mal93
First: You know that Nightly is only for experienced users. It is a test version. You take your chances using it.
Second: Why do you want to use Nightly (read the first post in this thread).

Make sure you backup your database (Ctrl+B).

Try
Code:
java -Xmx512m -jar jdupdate.jar -restore -branch NIGHTLY
You might have to remove the -X parameter if your version of Java does not support it. However, it might be necessary.

If it still does not work, look in your JDownloader directory for update.log or updateLog.txt. Also look for restarter.log or restarterLog.txt.
Combine these in a RAR archive and attach to a message in this thread. To attach, click Go Advanced, then scroll down and click Manage Attachments. The rest should be obvious.
