My previous statements where based on the overall experience and not any specific tests I had done.
I'll post an update after I do some simple tests later.
EDIT: Well, I haven't come across the same problem, and nothing has changed in my system yet, so it had to be the hosts.

The fact that the download finishes in much less time should be enough proof.
