WOW! A big
milestone in terms of hoster icons:
810 -
8 - 1 - 0 ! ! ! icons checked one by one, many of which are
manually made (for sites that doesn't have a favicon) or
carefully resized, using the best filters, sharpening and resizing algorithms with all the necessary touch-ups.
ALL ICONS are 16x16 in size, so there's no
"guesswork" when jD loads them (no internal re-scaling necessary);
There are
still about
420 icons still
"missing"... (and obviously not included in this package);
Note that
a lot of those
"missing" icons belong to sites that either does not have a favicon properly setup or, even worse, is completely offline. Maybe one day we'll reach zero-double-letter-white-square icons, but I doubt it... I've got a strong impression that there are many hosters that are still "active" in jD even though the site is completely dead - which means even if I wanted, I couldn't get a logo from the site to compose an icon for it;
Also
worth mentioning: about 230 icons were
updated from their old versions (some had color changes, some had a completely different design, some were another small change, etc - e.g. mediafire, soundcloud, etc); so, if you grabbed another old package, the recommendation is to replace all with those in this package that are current and up-to-date.
Having said all that, I also must include a
disclaimer:
- Many of those icons manually made are very much so a matter of taste; some people will find them horrendous, some will like it; luckily, it's quite easy to change them...
- Also some icons have been modified from their original version in order to be more easily visualized in a dark theme inside jD; some people will find this outrageous, so also feel free to change them back to the original versions; it's also quite easy.

Here's the
list of included icons, in case you're curious:
Now to a few
doubts, just in case (it's possible someone has an answer):
( 1 ) - How do I "force" (or "ask" or anything similar) jD Nightly to automatically try to download the remaining 420 icons from the sites that are iconless?
I know it is supposed to do it automatically, but I would like to understand the logic behind it - does it search all 420 sites
each time jD Nightly starts to see if has been a change in status and the site now has a favicon?
or it only searches once and after determining that the site "does not have a favicon", it never searches again?
( 2 ) - Doesn't it make sense to gradually fill in the icon repository in jD's site instead of having all white squares sitting there forever?
The "automatic" download of jD Nightly is a good solution, but it's far, far away from the ideal; too many icons with different sizes that doesn't scale well (not even counting that different icons should optimally be scaled using different algorithms); too many sites that even doesn't have a favicon (and one must be created manually); some icons that really don't display well in both white and dark interfaces; even some sites that will give you an empty icon as their favicon;
The longer it takes, the harder it's gonna get... (many more icons to inspect, create, etc); I'm more than
halfway through...
I wonder if somebody wanna help... (and also if there will
come a day when there will be
"official" support for those icons)
