Sorry escape is heavily been used by the program as cancelling action.
for example renaming action will cancel it, dialog present will close dialog.

When closing the application via the X button, it will have a dialog on first use which you can then remember action. If you select close to tray you can then press they key operation for closing application. In mac is 'command w' or windows 'alt f4' is close for memory but maybe 'ctrl w' works too? Im not using windows at this time to test/confirm.

alternatively you could look at an external program to key bind actions which you might not have ability to perform in program. I used to use auto hot key to perform these type of tasks.
