Default For users of OS-X 10.4 or earlier

The next major release of JDownloader will require Java 1.6 or later. The current Stable release of JDownloader does not take advantage of any Java 1.6 features, and many improvements would be easier with these features.

Some sort of legacy support for Java 1.5 is planned, but the specifics have not yet been decided. That is part of the reason for the poll attached to this thread. If there are only a few users who cannot upgrade their Java, then JDownloader 9580 will remain available and many of the host plugin updates will be Java 1.5 compatible. If there are users who can help with development, Java 1.5 compatible upgrades will be available for more parts of JDownloader.
------------------
If anybody finds a way to run Java 1.6 on OS-X 10.4, please discuss it in this thread or create a new thread and paste the URL into this thread. Remember, that some OS-X 10.4 users are on Intel processors, but many are on PPC processors.

Two ideas to get you started:
Wine (WINdows Emulator) script opened with an icon.
Java running on Linux with script opened with an icon.

If any information is posted in the rest of this thread that does not apply to OS-X 10.4, please enter a polite comment.

Thank you for your attention.
