I'm sorry but the donation tab was never meant to be hidden forever. There has been a bug I just fixed with latest update. You can hide the donation tab , as well as the banner, by yourself via
Settings-Advanced Settings- search for donate and banner

Please know that the donation tab will show up again automatically after some time. Same might also be for the banner. You can then just hide them again
