Addendum:
The culprit turned out to be the expert setting
'LinkgrabberSettings: Auto-Switch to Download Table on Confirm Default'
For whatever reason this setting was ticked as 'True' in a brand new installation even though the 'Auto-Apply' quick setting was explicitly disabled.
Maybe something changed within the latest install procedure? If so, I'd suggest to reverse it; IMHO this 'feature' is rather annoying than helpful.
