Default Java requirement?

Many years back JDownloader 1.6 required Java to run. Since then, nothing has been mentioned that I know of.

This morning, I was alerted to a new Java update however, when attempting to install it I was warned "You have not used Java in the last 6 months. Would you like to remove it? You can always reinstall it at a later date should your require it."

As I use JD every day, I'm guessing that JD2 no longer requires Java to run. Is this correct? If not, which version needs to be installed, the standard jre 8.211 or the SE version jdk 12.0.1 please?

JDownloader runs with Java 1.6 up to Java 12. Java 9,10,11,12 is experimental but working as some internal methods are not yet compatible with newer Java. Depending on used installer to install JDownloader either the system wide installed Java version is used or a bundled (within your JDownloader folder) Java version.

Hi Jiaz,
Thanks for your reply. So, as I understand it, I do need Java.

JDownloader needs Java, but you don't have to have it installed in system in your case.
You can remove it from your system if other applications don't need it
