Default JD2 crashed and exe disabled or removed

JD2 Crashed and exe and settings deleted. this happened before and I don't have anything other than av and fw running.

Saved folder as it was and redownloaded the app, but what is going on?

A crash of JDownloader doesn't delete settings. JDownloader uses copy-on-write mechanism = write to new file first, then replace the old one with new one.
Are all settings lost? Also the link lists?
What do you mean by *saved folder as it was* ?

Is there a .hs file in your JDownloader folder? In case java crashed, then such a file would exist.

I'd be lying if I said I knew everything that got deleted, but the accounts file was gone and shortcut no longer worked. I have the whole folder you can have it if you want.

What shortcut do you mean? Any hs_err files in your JDownloader?
does the .exe still works?
So only the accounts are gone? Is the file still in your cfg folder?

What shortcut do you mean? The one created at install.

Any hs_err files in your JDownloader?
I tried *.hs anf hs_err, but nothing came back.
does the .exe still works? No, had to start over with fresh install to get it to run.

So only the accounts are gone? Account is the mean one I noticed and anything else I'm really not sure

Is the file still in your cfg folder?
No
winrar'd the folder here:

The JDownloader installation from your archive works fine for me, but yes, no accounts available.
As there is no .hs_err file in your JDownloader, chances are high that JDownloader got killed by Firewall/Av. Under normal situation a crash of java would result in a crashlog (hs_err file).
This would also explain why the copy-on-write of your accounts failed, there is no trace about any account list.

You can import old list if you want by drag/drop the downloadList and linkcollector zip with highest number into your JDownloader

OK, I use the AVG FREE and ZONEALARM FREE as my AV/FW. Best way to prevent this from happening again?

I'm sorry but I can't tell *how to prevent this from happening again*
because I don't know what on your system caused the copy-on-write mechanism to fail.
I can't tell if the write failed or the file got deleted by os/filesystem error or firewall/av.

it's cool, you did want you could and that's all one can ask. Hoping I didn't get hacked by someone trolling the accounts file and the crash is a result of them taking it, running rootkit scanner now as from time to time I'll spend the extra cash for the proper speeds

Thanks again

Default in the interest of solving the problem

it happened again, it deleted the backup I made as well.
The plugin I was using is the mega.co.nz or mega.nz.

as tricky to reinstall also, had to delete everything and start over twice, I'd been moving the install directory reinstalling then copying the old directory over the new which allowed saving some of the setting and file list.

Q: What is the best way to backup in case of this type crash?

Sounds like Firewall/AV or some malware. Deleting a backup and files that you have created manually is something that happens outside of JDownloader.
My guess is that Firewall/AV detect *something* within those files and then deletes them.

Just delete Core.jar and the folders tmp and update and start JDownloader again.
It will then update/fix itself.
Restore the backup of cfg folder to restore all settings/lists/accounts

Sounds good, I most add that it happened again, but with the youtube plugin. the only thing the to have in common is they both do an after download process. youtub downloads a/v files then join and mega nz decrypts. that seems to be where at least where I'm having trouble.
