I downloaded JDownloader under Ubuntu Linux as the JDowloader page suggested had a LINUX entry. JDownloader is a windows/dos executable so I thought it should run under the WinE environment. However I get the error "requires Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0" so I don't know how to resolve this.

My Ubuntu Linux has jre 6.0 and the the earlier version installed, but I don't understand how this will help for a program running under WinE.

Am I out-of-luck or can this program run in my Ubuntu Linux?

Hey flashlight,

JDownloader runs on every operating system that supports Java. This includes ubuntu, of course. On the download page are instructions for linux users:

wget must be installed on system!
Download jd.sh
chmod +x jd.sh
start jd.sh

you can start JD manually by starting JDownloader.jar (in your JD folder).

It won't run for me. I've already done that JDownloader install, and I have Ubuntu's jre installed. All I get is an error message stating "This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0"

I really wish I could get this to work. I don't know what else to try.

I ran JDownloader.jar which extracted all the files from the archive.
I ran JDownloader.exe to execute the program.

Am I doing something wrong ?

1.)
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin
(you need sun java)

then
sudo update-alternatives --config java
and select sun java as default java

2.)
extracting a jar files bad idea its a java file, just start it with java
java -Xmx512m -jar JDownloader.jar
OR
./jd.sh (if you use the jd.sh script like described above)

JDownloader.exe is a windows exe

First, sorry about my english, Iḿ Brazilian and dont speak english very well...

I was having the same problem and that instructions solved my problem.

How can I create a program shortcut to the desktop and the menu application? I know this is not a problem of the program, but making the procedure suitable for the installation, there is no shortcut was created to run the program, and I have always run the terminal command to run the JDownloader.

I am a novice user in linux.

Try an Ubuntu or Linux forum.

I managed to create a shortcut on the desktop. But I believe that what is expected to install a program, is that in addition to the computer, which automatically create the necessary shortcuts. The creation of packages ".Deb" help a lot to beginners.
Another interesting thing would be to create repositories of JD.
