Default MacOSX + apple java 1.6.0_29 : JDownloader Screen Freeze - Spinning Baseball

************
Workaround one
Workaround two
************
I am using Mac version of JDownloader and I am running Mac Lion 10.7.2

Just started this morning, I have experienced a problem with the central part of the JDownloader main screen. The menus are not responsive (ie File, clear completed downloads) and new captured URLS in the clipboard are no longer transferring; however, the download speed limits, numbers of connections and number of files to be downloaded are accessible, as is the system tray icon.

I should also add that there is a strange blue basketball spinning (similar to the SBBOD).

I have deleted the JDownloader app and re-installed (although the re-install process was aware that JDownloader was already installed).

So i'm stuck and can't use JDownloader at all at the moment which is very disappointing; i use it daily and it has always been good.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Paul

What's your version of the JRE? Execute "java -version" in a command window.

What about a complete and detailed log?

If you don't have access to your log, please, provide an Emergency Log.

Thanks - Not with the machine just now, I will check later. However, as I mentioned I am running a Mac. I don't think I can get the logs, so will have to look at emergency logs, but the details for this are windows based. Do any instructions exist for obtaining these logs for mac?

I don't use mac terminal for much other than basic functions so would need more detailed explanation of how to obtain the logs.

thanks in advance

Paul

Java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11-402-11M3527)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.4-b02-402, mixed mode)

Emergency Log Files Attached as unable to set logging from within the application.

Any thoughts? I think I am needed to find an alternative solution here unfortunately.

Java 1.6.0_29 just came out for Mac yesterday, so maybe that's where the issue lies. I haven't upgraded yet myself and now I'm thinking I should hold off.

@p17blo

At first sight I don't see anything suspect in your log. Did the problem occur in this case?

Wait for a jD programmer to analyse your log, otherwise try to backtrack to your previous java version that worked.

try to switch to an older java version and see if that works
also try to switch to another theme
as nothing changed in jdownloader this has to do with mac java update for sure

PD: actually the program is working, but i have to press the menu, then i got a blue ball of waiting, if i resize the windows 2 times the app update and back to freeze. Or u can drag JD by the corner and move the mouse non stop to get it update more often.

I have the same problem too!

Running Mac OS X 10.7.2
Java Version: 1.6.0_29-b11-402
Latest version of JD.

The menu buttons and tabs are not responding, but JD is still capable of downloading stuff. Although the status bar, progress bar and the download speed bar on the top right are not responding, JD managed to download my file. The ETA countdown timer seems to be "frozen". Actually, everything has "frozen". However, it still manages to download my files.

If you have problem after updating Java, then the logical solution is downgrade back to the previous Java version.

Downgrading Java on the Mac is not exactly easy unless you have a time machine backup. Apple has replaced the previous version links with the updated installer. So, the bugs will just have to be fixed in JD.

Or wait for another Java update that fixes Java's bug.

Actually JD is still capable of downloading stuff.

Clicking on any button/tab/icon will not produce a response, producing a "freeze" effect. Only when I resize the window, then the screen will be refreshed. For example, if I am in the Download tab, and if I click on the Settings tab, nothing would happen. I would have to resize my window (to any dimension) then only would I be in the Settings tab.

Hello again. I downloaded a fresh copy of JD without uninstalling the old one. I updated it, and it works perfectly! No problems at all. Very strange indeed. I have not uninstalled the old one yet.

Jiaz, I'll email you my defective JDownloader.app (the nightly version).

2nd installation works only as long until a new download job is proceeding.

just as a download job is in the queue and active, the freezing is the same.

so the issue must be connected with the download activity.

the mouse pointer is changing to a blue circle sign as showing "I am busy with a job"

Default Same problem - after latest Mac Java update

Getting same issues as above - blue spinning ball, downloads work but jDownloader screens completely frozen, unable to move between screens, highlight downloads, etc.. Basically lost control of operation.

Whats the best solution - wait for a fix? download a new version?

Thanks for your help guys!!

Until the cause has been found and the problem has been repaired, you could revert your JRE to a previous version.

i can tell that a clean setup does not freeze. so i suggest...i'm sorry for that...to reinstall jd or cleanup the config folder inside the app till now.

Default Re-installed JD - no change, screen freeze, spining blue-ball

Hi Jiaz

Thanks for your comments. But having re-installed JD (didn't delete older version though) I am still getting all the same problems (screen freeze, blue-ball, but can use the screen Menu only).

I am using a 2009 MBP, with OSX 10.8 and latest Java update from Thursday. Have used JD for 2-3 years with no trouble for past 2 years ...

Is is possible or worth the hassle to revert to the older Java version on Mac?

Thanks

I'm getting the same problem since the Java update. I don't know how to roll back the Java update nor clean up the config folder but have tried re-installing JD, with no success. This is very frustrating and any clear advice on addressing the issue would be appreciated.

Actually...I seem to have found a solution by accident. Go to Utilities>Java Preferences.app>General and make sure the 32 Bit Java is the first choice. The default in mine was 64 Bit and now that I have swapped the order, JD appears to be working normally.

Do not working for me.
I swapped both and JD is still freezing. Even I rebooted with any luck.
Please, try to think in other step you have already done.

EDIT: You can swich to Nightly until the issue is solve, this version is working OK.

ok, I am a Mac (lion) user.

the post posted by remi says:
"cd /Applications/jDownloader.app/Contents/Resources/Java
sudo java -jar jdupdate.jar -branch NIGHTLY "

but in my installation the file jdupdate.jar is in the following path:
/Applications/JDownloader.app/Contents/Resources/app/jd

anyway when from terminal (in the dir /Applications/JDownloader.app/Contents/Resources/app/jd where the file jdupdate.jar is) i do the following command:
sudo java -jar jdupdate.jar -branch NIGHTLY, I receive this error:"Unable to access jarfile jdupdate.jar".

Any hint?

tks

replace "cd /Applications/jDownloader.app/Contents/Resources/Java"

by "cd /Applications/JDownloader.app/Contents/Resources/app/jd"

and try the second command again.

I'm sorry but I don't know where these files are on a Mac. Try to find the file jdupdate.jar and change the path accordingly.
