Default I do not wish to download without VPN

Surely the topic has been discussed before, but unfortunately I could not find a suitable thread...

For a better feeling while downloading I got myself a VPN account (Cyberghost).
This works basically fine.
But now I have noticed a very undesirable behavior of JDownloader. From time to time it happens that the VPN connection is interrupted. JDownloader then continues to work without VPN. Is there a possibility to set JDownloader to stop downloads when the VPN is not available?
I am using Ubuntu-Budgie Bionic Beaver and have set up VPN access via the Network Manager (all traffic via VPN).

I am looking forward to answers.
Many thanks and best regards

Hello, raztoki,

thank you for the quick answer!
Unfortunately I can't quite follow you with my dangerous half-knowledge.
In the connection management I see the entry "no Proxy". It is greyed out and cannot be deactivated for the time being. Probably I have to create a new entry here first to deactivate the default entry?

How and where to add a new connection on the vpn assigned interface?
Do I do this in the connection management of JDownloader?
I probably have to choose "direct" as my type here. Under Network Interface I am offered a single entry in the drop-down list (eno1). In the field IP/Network Interface I have to add an entry. What should it look like and where can I find it?

Thanks a lot for the help!

Hi,
no all connections are always visible.
With my "Windscribe" test VPN e.g., it is only visible once the VPN software is running and a connection is established.
It looks like this then:

Hello pspzockerscene,

thank you very much! Now I also see another network interface (tun4).
What do I have to enter now under IP/Network Interface (middle field)?

When I reconnect, the "tun" interface will count up.
Now I have entered 0.0.0.0 in the middle field for IP/network interface. This works, but is it the right setting?

Thanks in advance.

So did you figure out how to only download when VPN is active? What did you put in "IP/network interface"

Which VPN provider are you using?
Can you see the adapter of that service in the "Direct" list in JD?
Does your VPN provider also support Socks/HTTP proxys?

Currently setup with expressVPN. Yes I see the adapter if "direct" setup assuming I understand your question. Using L2TP so not their proxy setup.

It was really difficult to understand connection manager because I did not have vpn link up while I was trying to do setup. Once I start vpn I think I figured it out (currently testing setup) but have related questions so I will post new topic for that.

@ScottQ: I would recommend to use the proxy setup instead of VPN setup because it is easier to use and you can use multiple locations/proxy at the same time whereas the VPN setup only works one at a time.
You can either ask here if you need help or create new topic
