i just now realized which version is used für jd2 on my system (win7x64). jd2 uses the java version which is located in c:\Program Files (x86)\JDownloader\jre\bin which is the 7.0.45 version.
could somebody explain why it doesn't look for an up-to-date version in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 or in C:\Program Files or in C:\Program Files (x86)? yes i know how to change the version used, i don't need a guide. except you can tell me how i can point the exe (not the .jar) to the right location. |

Hi,
JDownloader comes with its own bundled Java Version. As your JDownloader 2 installation is very old (because it is installed in program files instead of appdata) you have a java 1.7 version bundled. There are several reasons we do this: 1.) we do not want to force the user to have java installed system wide 2.) we avoid launching issues with different bitness. eg instlling jdownloader with 32bit launchers and having upgraded java to 64bit version -> jdownloader will no longer be able to start (32bit exe cannot include 64bit code(java)) 3.) easier installation, else user needs to install java manually or click through the installation process of java himself We already working on method to update bundled java (if user wants to) You can change the version in "jre" Folder. We are still evaluating ways to change used jre easily.

you could use the registry for determining the right version. how about trying to find a compatible java version and using the bundled java only as a fallback?

The Launchers are not from us. They are created by install4j. We are looking into this but this is has no big priority at the moment.
