SLOW DL Speeds
Hello,
From an earlier post on this board by an admin, a fix to slow YouTube download speeds was to go to Settings --> Advanced Settings --> Youtube.ratebypassenabled and turn it on. That setting is no longer present in the latest version of the downloader, and my YouTUbe speeds are terrible compared to IDM. On IDM I can get anywhere from 300-700 kbps, on Jdownloader I'm averaging about 100. Why was this setting removed? Thanks |

IDM uses 8 connections by default, JDownloader uses 1.
That's why you get higher speeds but YT throttles/limites them all to actual required bitrate since long time and that option(bypass) no longer works

I've actually set Jdownloader to 20 connections and I still get the same result (I did this before making this post and testing speeds). I'm not sure why the YouTube speed differences are still so drastically different between applications.
Interesting to know that the bypass no longer works, though. |

Changing connections only works BEFORE the download has started the first time. After start you have to rightclick reset to change the number of connections.
Also maybe you use different variant of the video in IDM vs JDownloader?

It's probably a little slower in JD2. The speed drops to 0B/s several times and increases again...

The only difference is that JD has static chunking while IDM has dynamic. JD splits file into x chunks and then download while IDM opens new connection(keeping number of connections)

It's just that sometimes JD2 downloads at a higher speed than my INTERNET allows, unless the speed shown by JD2 is "faked" ?
Example 2,82 MiB/s = 2,95 MB/s Maximum Speed Connection:ADSL 22.94 Mbps Downstream https://i.postimg.cc/SQL3CmQn/Screen...-47-AM-001.jpg |

22,94 Mbit/s = 2,75Mbyte/s
And buffers/firewall/av > can cause higher shown speeds

calculation of speed is not that simple
