Default "manage" concurrent parts' download - differently

I know this might make the devs' life difficult, but it might just be worth it...

With the current method - JD parallel downloads of the different parts. I suggest to try and provide another way. Do it like the flashget "download managers" - downloading any single "part" using the multiple available hosters (unlike today when single-part<=single-hoster).

The benefit - this will work well to speed-up also a single-large-file download (now internally splitted to multiple parts). Also - the download order will be better - so that viewing of DLed parts/rars - may be possible sooner.

Well, just my 2 cents worth idea...

edit:
or.. maybe use flashget and integrate with it if possible ? ...

Cool

I suppose you're talking about mirrored files. If this is the case, then jD needs to have files that it can resume. Not al hosts support this feature and certainly not for free-loaders.

Nevertheless, it's a good idea and the feature might be integrated in the to be redesigned download system.

this would only be possible as premium user because you need the host to support chunk and resume and i only know megaupload to support this. so as a free user there is no such way in doing this. for premium users there is no advantage , only disadvantage because he has traffic on several accounts instead on one.

also if it would be able to work on some free hosters. it would be worse for user, because now he can load several files from several hosts without having to wait (eg static ip). when loading one file from everal hosts, he has to wait much longer because more hosts get into traffic limit and are forced to wait.

Cool

Conclusion :- it would only be useful for downloading one big (~ 1 GB) mirrored file when all the hosts support resume, i.e., when you have several premium accounts.

even then its not a big advantage, because
1.) how many ppl have several premium accs
2.) you need interchangable links for the big files
3.) you get traffic on every account
4.) in worst case you get calculated more traffic, because some hosts calc per file and not what is really loaded, so eg downloading 5 mb on a host of a 1gb file, the host will calc 1gb traffic
5.) premium accounts can max out nearly every line easily

Cool

My conclusion was premature.

1) I don't have any PAs , but at the moment I'm using MU and Narod and these downloads can be resumed.
2) I think Metalink could be a good example
3) true
4) & 5) true, because you know these premium accounts better than me

New conclusion :- with very big files, when you don't have premium accounts, and all selected hosts support resume, it could be advantageous to have such a feature.
