Default How do I clear out temp files?

How do I clear out old temp files without deleting my GUI settings?

I recently opened up a jd2backup file (using notepad) and I found all kinds of old downloads stuff going back almost a year.

within backups ? either delete the older backups, or open the zip in zip program and remove content that you don't want to preserve?

How do I delete the older backups?

And are there any temp files that I can delete old history without deleting my current GUI settings?

shift delete in windows or rm -rf backupfile in unix

temp files don't hold download history, just /cfg/ downloadlist linkcollector zips contain url info. the rest of cfg/ will contain user settings.

Well how do I get rid of those?

That's exactly what I don't want to touch. I don't want JDownloader to restart itself and there go away all my menu settings and premium account settings, passwords etc...

Do you have visual instructions you can show me here?

Thanks

JDownloader cleans up after itself (tmp/captchas/logs), there should be zero files that you need to manually remove yourself. Your OP was about backup files and contents there of, so I gave advice about that. Either delete the backups you no longer want to keep, or edit the backups (they are zips) and remove content within with zip editor.

shift delete = function to remove content within explorer to delete without sending to the recycle bin.

there are no visual instructions as my answer indicates, you shouldn't need to remove content yourself.

The backup you were talking about in OP was created manually.

What exactly do you want to cleanup?

I know what the command means but I don't know in what context you are using it in.

Bottom line is I want to clean up JDownloader of old files (including backups) that are no longer necessary and give some drive space back to the 64GB SSD I'm using. I want to find out how to do this without losing my settings, which were a nice guy to set up with in the first place. I'm doing this kind of cleanup for a lot of other programs besides JDownloader.

Close JD
you can safely delete
-logs Folder
-tmp Folder
That many logs, looks like very old installation that had a cleanup bug. By default JDownloader only keeps the last 2 days of logs

For the "new" log, this is no longer true. Setting is 2 days, but it keeps all logs forever.

How about keeping both the logs folder and the tmp folder but just emptying them out?

I don't like to delete folders unless I have to...

UNLESS this next update you speak about will automatically do that for me. Yes? No?

you can also just empty them out there is no difference, JDownloader will create the folders in case they do not exist yet

the update will only fix the auto cleanup of logs, so only the last 2 days are kept

Thing is, this is what is in my tmp folder

see attachment...

Those files look important in there. Are you saying I can delete all this in here, including the folders?

~

And I still don't know where those old backups (minus the GUI settings) are stored. This program is getting up to 450MB and counting, I suspect due to this old bloat.

~

PS: I downloaded the latest update (4.5MB) and JDownloader restarted. I went into the logs folder and all the old logs mentioned up above are still in there. It didn't do anything.

If worse comes to worse, I can create an inclusion path in CCleaner and have it manually clean them out periodically. No harm in doing that, right?

The bugfix to delete old logs is not live yet
Yes, you can delete the complete tmp folder
No need to auto clean tmp folder. The most size will be your logs folder

Well I manually cleaned it out yesterday and saved only about 42MB. Not much, but it's a start. It's too bad the cleanup for this program isn't made too clear.

I hope I can still update when I have to. I haven't had any updates for the last two days.

You can safely delete logs and tmp folder (close JD before doing that)
I can check your installation with a teamviewer session if you want

I'm not sure what meeting in Team Viewer would accomplish. All I wanted to know was how to do a clean up of old files in JDownloader. I got a partial answer here with the tmp and log files, but then I got some vague generalities about backups.

Please point me to where old backups are stored. Not just log files. It's obvious that self-cleaning function of this program doesn't work.

It seems that there is a misunderstanding, maybe you use terms that we don't use.
When you say old backup, what do you mean? Maybe it's just old link list?
I have linkcollector11012.zip.backup inside cfg folder, is that what you mean?

You can safely delete tmp and logs folder.
those .zip.backup files in your cfg folder are automatic backups because something went wrong with restoring your link list. you can delete them when your current list is available.

Well that's one possibility. Would that also include old .jd2backup files?

.jd2backup files are created manually by yours. so it is your job to remove them when you no longer need them

I understand. Where are they located at? What file do I go into to clean them out?

As they are only created manually, you should know where you have saved them

You locate them and just delete them.
