"Various files" date frozen
There is probably an easy answer to this, but I counldn't find it in the forums.
When you add an non-package link, it goes in linkgrabber under the generic package "Various files" (E.g. Jan 2010). The date on this package shows the date when it was first created, while the date the link was added shows on the individual link/file (E.g. Today). When you take a link (or links) from the "Various files" to the main download window, it adds it under it's own "various files" package. The issue is that I'm finding that the "Added date" shows the older date from the "Various files" package, and not the date that link was moved to the download list. The date on the file itself reflects the correct date. I hope that makes sense. The issue is that this makes newly added links look ancient, sending them up the download list, instead of adding them to the very bottom. If the date on your "Various files" package is old, and you have a lot of files on the download list, it makes it difficult to find them. What I am hoping to do is have the "added date" reflect the date the link was moved to the downloads list. This was never an issue before; adding files from "various files" updated the date properly; it seems like this started fairly recently. The only workaround I've found is to add those links to a new package before moving them to the downloads menu. It's only an extra step, but as I mentioned, it wasn't necessary before. Is there a setting or something that I missed to fix this? Thanks! *edit* I took all the files in the "various files" package in linkgrabber, and moved them to a new package, thinking maybe this would force JD to update the time. Nope, instead, it's created a new catch-all "various files" package, and putting any newly added non-packaged links in there. And still the same issue - if you move those files to the download list, it uses the timestamp on the "various links" package and not the time the link was added. @JDownloadFan: I could not find any change about that behaviour but I understand your point.
But this *date issue* applies to all packages and not just *Various files*. It also happens with normal packages. Imagine you have an older package with one link in it, now add many new links into that (eg via drag/drop) and then add this one to download list. Same thing happens. I can think of following *solutions*: -always use *now* as *added date* for packages when moving them to download list -check for oldest link date and use it as *added date* -check for newest link date and use it as *added date* -use last modification date of package as *added date* (changes whenever you move/add/remove links within a package) Please let me know your opinion

@Jiaz
Thanks for the advice. I'm glad you understood the situation Re "-always use *now* as *added date* for packages when moving them to download list" How do I do this? It sounds like a solution. In the meantime, I took your last suggestion of sorting the downloads list by "modified date", and that seems to work well. The date/time the link was moved to the download list becomes the "modified date", so it properly places it at the bottom of the list. I just removed the "added date" column altogether. |

@JDownloadFan: right now, none of those options are available. It was more like...I can think of following possible solutions, what is your opinion on them Or I just add all of them and add a new setting for it.

I mean, it's probably not a priority, and hiding the "added date" column and sorting by "modified date" seems to do the trick for some reason. Newly added non-packaged files are added to the bottom of the list. I guess JD defaults to adding by the first available date? It's just weird that everything seemed to be fine prior to restoring/importing the settings. If/when you get around to it, I think defaulting the added date to the date a link was moved to the downloads list is the most intuitive, but that's IMHO. But since the above trick works, it's not a priority at all (I'm more concerned about that cleaning issue...) Thanks for the suggestions! |
