Unhappy JD stops downloading

When I add links in JD, it starts downloading just fine. But after some time the downloads loses connection, and when they finaly reconnects, JD freezes them and won't start downloading again.

I have reinstalled java and jdownloader over 15 times now, and
tried various combinations of java 1.6u17, 1.6u18 both 32bit & 64bit,
1.6u20 32bit & 64bit and nightly version of jdownloader -nothing works.

(I have allowed java.exe and javaw.exe both 32bit and 64bit, and jdownloader.exe
in the firewall)

My specs:
win7 home premium 64bit with bitdefender 2010 total security
rapidshare premium account with direct download activated
static wan ip

JRE version 1.6.0_17 ("**External links are only visible to Support Staff**) is the last version that's compatible with jD. Be sure to use the 32 bits version.

Here are some recommendations for using jD and W7.

When you've applied all recommendations and the problem still happens, please post a complete and detailed log.

i see alot of timeouts and connection issues. they are cuased by firewall/antivirus. please add java.exe and javaw.exe to exclude list of both and sometimes you also have to setup correct/disable the www/http scanning engine.

make sure you did not chnage the timeouts in settings-networks, both timeouts should be at least 100.000

Reduce the Max.Con. setting (bottom right corner of jD window) to 1 or 2.

Both java.exe and jawaw.exe are allowed in the firewall, www/http scanning is disabled, timeouts in network-settings are set to deafult 100.00 and Max.Con/Max.Dls are set to 2/2..

If you still have the same problems, set Max.Con = 1, un-install your firewall and virus software, reboot your PC and provide a new log.

I've already tried without any firewall/AV installed, and a seperat nightly, also without any firewall/AV.. And Max.Con/Max.Dls set to 1/1 -still the same problem..

It's so frustrating, I have literally tried every combination with various java versions, jd versions, fw/av and different locations..

Hi
I admit I have a similar problem, I recently installed a 2TB HDD and set all my downloads to this drive and they would start fine but after a few hours I would notice that most of my downloads were greyed out and aborted and happening all the time so I took the drive out and went back to a 1.5tb drive and it was all perfect again. In the meantime I got a new machine with Win7 ult put the 2TB in this one and problem came back, tried a brand new 2Tb Hdd and same thing. Not sure if you are using a 2tb but I don't think JD has any issues with drives so the only thing left for me to try is a new power supply my 450w might not have enough power for my setup which has 4 drives including the 2tb. I will have another try on my Vista machine if it does the same then I know its the power supply. Will keep you updated

When you're having hardware problems, all other programs that use that hardware would show similar problems.

If you change disks, it isn't sufficient to simply change the default download directory. Don't forget to set the download directory for all the packages that are in the Download pane. Select the packages, select Properties and change the "Save to" field.

Thanks for your reply remi
Last night It happened again all my downloads stopped and everything froze. I managed to save the log as a text file which is 2mb. How do I put up this log to see if you can help find out the problem. Do I cut and paste here?
Thanks

Compress the file (zip, rar) before you upload it. Mediafire.com is a good alternative for RS.

It's possible that it's blocked by the board's spam filter. You can wait for a moderator to unblock it or just post the link of your file.

Your JRE version is OK.

You're using too many connections. Please reduce the number of chunks (Max.Con.) to 1 and Reset the files that are greyed out. Also reduce your number of simultaneous downloads (Max.Dls.).

Allow java and javaw in your firewall and virus software. Disable the port 80/html/web scanner in your virus software.

Thanks. Ok Will give that a go. Though I have been using that setup for months without any problems. java and javaw are enabled in zone alarm free V9 and link scanner is off in avg free v9. It just does the same damn thing every time, I try to D/L about 8gb and it just stops at about 5gb every time. I also notice that after it stops the computer won't open up IE8 any more and most things won't run I cant even open a movie file. I have to restart to do anything again. I installed Win7 same thing then reinstalled Vista same thing, tried 3 different hard drives even external. Hardly any programs installed except for Avg free 9 Zone Alarm 9 and Klite codec pack 590 And DU meter V4.
But when I'm not downloading computer never freezes

Cool

After some re-analysis of your log, I noticed you're running a 64 bits version of the JRE. These versions have shown memory leaks and other bugs. I think the symptoms you mention refer to that memory leak. Therefore I recommend to run a 32 bits version of the JRE.

JRE version 1.6.0_17 ("**External links are only visible to Support Staff**) is the last version that's compatible with jD.

If the problem isn't solved then I recommend the following procedure :-

1) Un-install all your virus software. You can also un-install your firewall if you've a firewall in your router.

2) Reboot your PC.

I hope your problems will be solved soon!

Thanks Remi
I think I reinstalled the 32bit java version the other day. how do I check my version?
Also a bit of news I uninstalled AVG v90 819 and also uninstalled Zone Alarm free V91 007 002 and setup 10gb of files and for the first time since I had these problems they all downloaded fine. From what I see on the internet it looks like there might be a conflict between the 2, some people recommending to use Zone Alarm Free V92 020 beta. I will try this out and see if it fixes the prob.

Execute "java -version" in a command console.

I'm sorry that I overlooked that the first time, but your log was gigantic.

I've always had problems with virus software. I tend to un-install it after one week, because my computer runs much better without it.
I've never found any malware on my PC although I'm using Windoze. I think it all depends on how you use the Internet and what software you trust.
It helps when you sometimes read reports on security. I give you one example: Flash. This software is mentioned in all security reports of the last decade as being one of the most important vectors of malware but there are still people and websites (not to mention Gogol) who're using that crap software.

Thanks. I only had problems since I did an upgrade of my computer. And I downloaded the latest version of avg free and zone alarm free, previously I prob had older versions and it was perfect. I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the new versions of these progs. With no avg or zone alarm it seems to work fine but when I reinstalled them again same problem. And as avg always updates itself then I prob always had the latest version so maybe the latest zone alarm is the prob. I might try 2nite with avg on but no zone alarm and see what happens. Keep you posted

Forget the zonealarm and nod32... I had this problem too and now it's gone. It seems to be a bug in windows 7 that cause leakage of memory.
Install the KB979223 patch

Don't think I had the memoryleak problem, as it did the same in Vista as well as Win7.
But just an update without Zone Alarm installed it works perfect again. So there must be a conflict with Avg free 9 and Zone alarm free. With zone alarm installed downloads stop at about 2 hours or about 6gb and I get red x's on my files with different error messages.
Without Zone Alarm not a problem at all.

JRE version 1.6.0_17 32 bits ("**External links are only visible to Support Staff**) is the last version that's compatible with jD. Remove more recent versions.

I was having alot of problems like this and discovered for some dumb reason their was a limit of 10 on JDownloader speed. I never set a speed setting on it.. changed it and speed is at least back to normal but timeout socket errors I keep getting.. it's faster for me to click on every link manually and download with Downthemall anymore because at least it does not timeout and stop downloading like Jdownloader does. Also the stupid Speed Limit keeps resetting to 10.

It's not the host either because this happens on rapidshare.com, depositfiles.com, and megaupload.com that I have premium accounts with and all of them time out.

A speed limit of 10 kb/s smells like you clicked on the Pause button in the tool bar of jD.

Please read about "How to solve socket timeout problems".

Ok so pause sets a speed limit now why does it not change it back to normal after unpausing? That would explain alot of the timeouts since it is downloading so slowly.

When I click on the Pause button again the speed limit disappears. What's you version of the JRE?

Latest version downloaded.. I think if you do not use the button to unpause the speed limit does not reset. Since I was having so many issues I had paused all downloads than tried one or two at a time and did not realize when doing this that speed limit would be set and it does not reset.. probably have to press the actual resume all button for it to reset. So most likely what happened.. I paused some files due to timeouts.. I than resumed and downloaded a few at a time.. hence the speed limit never reset.. next time it started Jdownloader the speed limit must of still remained causing all the issues.

@thunderstorm

Your post is off-topic. The title of the thread is "JD stops downloading" and has nothing to do with crashes.

Don't test jD with versions > update 17. Remove more recent versions.

I would recommend re-installing the JRE, but you probably already did.

Since Java has been crashed by another program, I would suggest closing all other programs and try jD again. Run other programs one by one and see how the JRE reacts.

Default JD stops downloading and crashes by all kinds of files

@remi

Thank you for your possibility to solve this problem. I forgot to say that the all downloading aktivity stops and then JD crashes.

I use JRE Version 6 from update 17 to update 20. I checked that no other java program is running. No java applets are running in web browsers. I think this problem cause since last JD update on June, 10th.

But this problem isn't solved. Searching www about problematic frame and java in the past gives a lot of results, that caused by other *.dll (in Windows) or *.so (Linux).

But nobody explains whats problematic frame is and cause. Has somebody an idea about problematic frame or further information. I'm very interesting in it.

The problem is that the msvcrt.dll, which is a dll developed by M$, causes the JRE to crash. The msvcrt.dll is related to M$'s Visual C++. That's all I can tell you at this moment. How C++ can interfere with Java I don't know. Something (maybe a system related process) must be using it.

You can try other forums (Java or M$ related) to find someone who knows more.

Guys, did you ever tried to install the MS patch recommended a few posts above? I was struggling with exactly same issue and nothing helped. After installing the patch (KB979223) all is back to normal and I can download whole day long without problems!
