Thank you.

I sent a removal request.

In addition to jdownloader.com, there are many other confusing domains. I guess that means the product is popular enough that people want to confuse our users.

@ remi,
Because he said he had done it.

I dont for sure, but he said he would report it to security sites etc and someone posted on the site about jdownloader.com and .org at the same time. so must have been someone that didn't realise the difference etc.

The installer from that site, installs a toolbar that will make you search in
http://search.conduit.com/ResultsExt.aspx?ctid=CT2619605, for getting conduit.com revenues.

More info about the site:
http://www.dondominio.com/buscar_whois/?domain=jdownloader.com

It uses social networks, but mainly facebook and taringa, to spread the site:
http://buscar.taringa.net/posts?q="jdownloader.com"
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jdownloader/132403040131749
http://twitter.com/jdownloader2010
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-0a6g5_2_w

Author(s) speaks Spanish, and this is the community where jdownloader.com is best spread as the official site.

----

We need the spanish speakers spreading jdownloader.org, specially in taringa,
Email the hosting company, www.dondominio.com, asking the suspension of the site.

Email the hosting company . . .
Coalado has worked hard to get the jdownloader.com domain under jdownloader.org control. Contacting the hosting company was one of the first steps.

But, that explains why people think there is malware in JDownloader, the .com installer does.

A year ago some people suspected the Kikin plug-in.

A recent thread "0.9.334 Fresh Install - KIKIN plugin" mentions it in an installation issue. I've discovered other threads with installation issues mentioning Kikin.

In the German thread "lädt JD einen Trojaner mit dem Onlineupdate?" and the English thread "Trojan on 0.8.821 version ?" coalado and Jiaz respectively refer to further info on Kikin. Both threads were created by Avira customers.

No wonder that other people might have issues with this plug-in.

Removing this plug-in from jD might solve the problem once and for all, but then some revenue for jD might be lost.

Default Let people biliv this is good site

Hi,

I am new here. I heard that JDownloader is a good downloader. Then I want to try it. I googled it. It gave two sites .org as well .com in the result ( I ignored rest).

.ORG :
when I tried to download, you are giving UPLOADTO linkx). the file size is around 15 MB and file name ends as KiKKIN or so (which I donno what it is). I felt very strange as you haven't used your own server and u have used a file sharing host.

Then I went to download.cnet.com where I could not find JDownloader. (Usually I biliv cnet for spam free and safe downloads).

Then I checked the links Who wrote about us? where i clicked on http :// jdownloader.uptodown. com/en/ it has download at another sharing host HOTFILE, and hotfile removed this software:huh:.

Then I checked http :// www .brothersoft .com/jdownloader-171166.html , where the file size is 26 MB.

I went to softpedia, where also file size is 26 MB, but the differed "JDownloader 0.9.579 Brain".

versions number are same or similar at softpedia, brothersoft and softonic where as your site news blog says version 0.7 released (found in google):outch:.

.COM :
The .com site download links seems not working at all or my ad-block+ might have blocked.:w00t:

:confused::w00t:
Here my point is where is consistency ? why there is this much confusion? why there is difference in sizes of the files ? why dont you requsted CNET to include JDownloader in their list.

Sorry if I asked too many questions or if I should not ask but I felt its better to bring these cases to your notice so that u can correct and avoid confusion to users and increase your reputation:).

Note : I tried windows version to download.

I think the jD.org Team don't want to use their servers for hosting their program, because every download costs them bandwidth and money. Their servers are mainly used for updates, software development and this board. This means that cnet.com and other specialised software sites can't refer to jD.

I've advised the jD Team to use a clear version number (and OS) in the file name of the download. I recently asked to publish an MD5 hash string so that everybody can verify the downloaded files. I advise them to publish the file sizes as well.

Jdownloader.org is our Homepage. The .com does not belong to us but we try to get it back, but that's not easy and maybe impossible. There are also some other domains which do not belong to us.

Use Jdownloader.org!

Remi is right, we use FileHoster to host our Installer, because we already have enough traffic and bandwith usage just with updates and ipchecks and so on. Hosting the Installer ourselves would be impossible to do it for free.

I will talk to coalado about better names for the files and hash lists.

Difference FileSizes/Names...Thats easy. Everyone tries to make profit with JD, so many ppl host/distribute JD themselves or spread links to their own links. They also change the Content of the Files (thats why a hash list would be good idea).

Jiaz, maybe talk to him about posting it on SourceForge as well, that would make a lot of people feel better about downloading it there, plus you would have mega bandwidth. I have several projects there, and it works well.

At the moment we dont want to use many hosts. Every additional host means more work = updating, checking, uploading and so on.

Yep, I agree. I dont know that you need to pay to cnet for adding this there.

I worried about reliability and trust. You may be right every one want to make money, but softonic and brothersoft were mentioned in your site only and they also have different size.

Its ok you don't bother about this and your reputation

I know you do not want to use many hosts, but using SourceForge.net (sf.net) would be better than any of the storage hosts. SourceForge is the unofficial home of open source. Almost all of the projects that do not host their own downloads use SourceForge.

The biggest advantage is that SourceForge is essentially permanent. The problems with storage hosts dropping the files would disappear.

Only Major revisions would have to be uploaded there. A zip of the matching source could be saved there. Any utilities and approved 3rd party addons could be distributed from there.

They even have an SVN server and other support for projects.

You are right. The .com site is a plain ripoff, and the jD you can download there may be infected with malware, maybe it even will steal your premium account data.

Someone should finally close this [censored]'s site down for good!

Oh, would you please post in that forum that jdownloader.org is the one and only original?

Default What is different about Jdownloader.com? Is it a scam?

Jdownloader.com looks much better than .org and it's very polished and looks official

Is it a scam site..?

Can someone explain this to me?

someone other took .com domain before we had chance to and now they try to get visitors that are looking for jdownloader.

.org is the official page and new website design is already in progress (litte example of style can be seen on our facebook site).

we are still trying to get hold on .com domain but no chance till now.

Why don't the guys with the copyright to JD just sue that asshole? AFAIK he's sitting in Spain, so that should not be a problem. Didn't look which webhoster he is at, but maybe the local version of a DCMA take-down notice to his hoster could help. I doubt that he would keep paying for the domain if he'd be sentenced to stop violating the GPL (which he clearly does, as he doesn't provide any sources himself, only links to the jdownloader.org's SVN). And I doubt that he would be allowed to keep the domain if he was sued for the name infringement.

Maybe there is some lawyer out there willing to take the job to sue that asshole, when you grant him 10 or 20 % of the punitive damages that guy will be ordered to pay, instead of the normal payment of his hours.

And one more tip: the FSF is known to help copyright holders of FOSS in such cases, what about contacting them?

1.) he does not violate gpl as he links our sourcecode server (hidden but he still does)
2.) suing is VERY expensive. you can easily sum up several thousand euros before first results come in.
3.) we have some ideas how to get hold onto the .com domain but that needs time.

at the moment we cannot do much against them but to inform the users only to use .org domain.

Angry WARNING!! : jdownloader.com :: Virus/Malware

JDownloader is the best I use for a long time. Today, I search Google for JDOWNLOADER and I found jDownloader.com

When I try to download my anti-Virus blocked (see following)

This means Jdownloader contains virus!! I know that it is a hoax but it ruined JDownloader's reputation and it made me mad.

You should make immediately response to this case. Thank you.

jdownloader.org is our official domain. The .com domain is owned by someone else and has nothing to do with us. Please make sure you only download from our download page and not .com

I think someone who have heard about Jdownloader somewhere may go to .com and download jdownloader from there, that's the problem! Our reputation of jdownloader will be destroyed, you know? May I suggest? If I were you, I will announce to the public on the homepage, let's say "Don't download jdownloader from jdownloader.com because we found hoax." or something like that to help innocent people.
Finally, Thank you for your quick response, but as member, I knew to download jdownloader from .org only. How about the rest? if they are new to jdownloader? I worried about that.
Have a nice day, pal.
