Default Newbie question (should be in FAQ?): size of extracted track?

When looking at in Link Grabber it is listed as 12 MB but when extracting it I only get a file that is 5 MB.

Why? Is it reencoded or something? I see no setting for that.

Thought this would be an FAQ but I couldn't find anything there.

The plugin demuxes the audio track and that's why the final filesize isn't known until the download is finished

Can you elaborate? What are these 7 MB that are missing?

It downloads the full video and then demux the audio track.

I'm not sure I understand. This is how it looks in JDownloader

The audio and video seem to be separated already, aren't they?

Without example link I can't tell. It depends on stream and selected quality if the audio stream is standalone or must be demuxed from video.
From your example I can tell that a video with 12mb exists and JDownloader demux the audio.

There was a link in the thread start that you removed.

Why did you remove the screen shot with the file size details? There were just numbers there, nothing sensitive.

Sorry, oversaw that part. 12MB = Video+Audio, 5 MB = extracted audio stream
Yes I know it did not contain any sensitive information but I had other reasons

No, if you have a look at **External links are only visible to Support Staff**... you notice that the audio is 12 MB and the video 17 MB, all in all 29 MB. Your explanation doesn't hold.

The 17MB video has different video track (higher resolution)
If you don't believe me, then I'm sorry but I can't help.
I explained how it works and yet you don't believe it.

What are you talking about?

JDownloader reports 17 MB video, 12 MB audio (and 85 kB image), all in all 29 MB. When I extract the audio I get a 5 MB file. You explained the missing 7 MB by audio and video being muxed into one track, but that was before I pointed out that video was listed separately. So, no, you haven't explained what's going on.

JDownloader reports Video 17MB(higher resolution) and 12MB(Video, lower Resolution) and then extracts audio 5MB. I explained above that JDownloader downloads video stream and then extracts audio stream.

Default vinnies road

It would be easier to discuss if you didn't delete innocent images and links all the time.

No it doesn't. It reports:
  • 17 MB (filmroll symbol) 1080p 30fps MP4-Video AAC-Audio
  • 12 MB (note symbol) M4A 192 kbit/s

And a total size of 29 MB. Unless something is completely broken there are two parts 17 and 12 MB which sums up nicely to 29 MB.

The m4a is actually not 12 MB, plugin doesn't estimate the real size, instead, it displays the size of lower resolution video that will be downloaded then it will demux the audio track from that lower resolution video.
Is it clear enough?

The 12 MB contains Audio AND Video, 720p 30fps, MP4-Video AAC-Audio
After download of the 12 MB, the audio stream is demuxed and results in 5MB AAC audio file
