Somehow I have lost/hidden the speed limit control that used to be on the bottom of the main screen. I can still get to the function from menus and clicking, but how do I get it back always visible?

You can reset the menu structure. In Settings-User interface- there you an open up the menu editor for top/bottom/rightclick menus and there you can reset to default layout.
Instead of resetting you might also just add back the *limit control* action and/or enable/make it visible.
In case this doesn't help, please report back.

Thanks, but that was not it.

I found the cause was I did not have "Overview panel visible" selected.
Turned that back on and the speed controls are visible again.

Ah okay, thanks for the feedback. There are several gui locations+ customized ones, so I thought you were talking about the one that opens in popup menu
