@barryz
Do you live in UK?
BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only.

Exactly.
For me, I just tried it via proxy but it failed there also.
My plugin should work fine for all videos which you can play fine via browser.

jDownloader just worked for me downloading a BBC iPlayer file, but I couldn't find any options for selecting the quality of file to be downloaded. Can that be done in some way? Is the plugin configurable to select file quality, and if it is, where in the plugin list do I find it?

TIA

None of your URLs is available.

I've added some code which might fix this case.

Please provide a debug log, see https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...d-session-logs
and post shown logID here

Please make sure to enable debug mode first. Go to Settings-Advanced Settings, search for debug and enable log debug, then restart JDownloader

I am not reporting an error. The plugin is working well for me. I am asking advice if the plugin is configurable in any way to determine the quality of the iPlayer file download requested.

Thank you for that advice. According to the iPlayer website the url provided for streaming video is HD i.e. 1280x720p by default, and can be switched to lower resolution by the user if necessary. However, the HD resolution when played in the browser is 1280x720p @ 50 fps, and when downloaded with JDownloader is 1280x720p @ 25 fps. I was asking if the plugin, not the source, was configurable in any way.

No configuration available. Without a logfile I can't tell if there are multiple qualities available.

I understand. I started an iPlayer download, and sent the log file id 20.04.17 22.03.15 <--> 20.04.17 22.08.24 jdlog://7656189150841/

Hopefully that will be enough for you to tell if there are multiple qualities available.

There are three qualities available
BANDWIDTH=796000,RESOLUTION=640x360
BANDWIDTH=1496000,RESOLUTION=832x468
BANDWIDTH=2397000,RESOLUTION=1280x720
JDownloader automatically uses best BANDWIDTH/RESOLUTION

Added preferred selection.

I did not add a decrypter because for BBC, it is never clear what we get although it will often be HLS.

Thank you for doing this. I look forward to trying the preferred selection option when JDownloader is updated.

I have tested the plugin by downloading the same file at five videoresolution settings:

1. BEST
2. 1920x1080
3. 1280x720
4. 768x432
5. 640x360

with these results:

1. 1280x720 @ 25 fps
2. 1280x720 @ 50 fps
3. 1280x720 @ 50 fps
4. 832x468 @ 25 fps
5. 640x360 @ 25 fps

Observations:

1. I have never seen a 1920x1080 resolution file offered by iPlayer, but there may be some for all I know. Both the 1920x1080 and 1280x720 settings in JDownloader returmed the 720p @ 50 fps file that as far as I know is the standard HD offering by iPlayer for streaming where 720p is available. The 50 fps is achieved by frame duplication, which to some offers no discernible quality benefit, but may be preferable to 25 fps for streaming video.

2. The BEST setting returned a 720p @ 25 fps file which was to my eye of slightly better quality than the 720p @ 50 fps file, being a bit more than half the size and bitrate of the 720p @ 50 fps file.

3. The lower videoresolution settings delivered smaller resolution / smaller files as expected.

If the BEST setting in JDownloader consistently delivers a 720p @ 25 fps file then I will be more than satisfied! However, some users may prefer to download the 720p @ 50 fps versions where available, depending on their viewing preferences and equipment. The lower quality settings will probably be of value to people who need to keep their download file sizes in check.

Thanks again for this enhancement.

I think the plugin is implemented that way that you can set prefered quality but it will auto fallback to next best option. For example 1080 not available, it will check next best available

Thanks for the feedback. So is this option okay?

As I indicated previously my preferred download option from iPlayer is 720p @ 25 fps. If one uses a download manager integrated into a Web browser, and selects the 720p option, then iPlayer delivers the 50 fps option.

Mostly the BEST option in the JDownloader plugin delivers the 720p @ 25 fps version, but sometimes it will deliver the 50 fps option. When it does, then when I have selected the 1024x576 option in the plugin (i.e. the next LOWER option below 1280x720) iPlayer has delivered the 720p @ 25 fps version.

Ideally I would like to be able to have the 720p @ 25 fps selectable as an option in JDownloader.

@raymondjpg
1. I've added 1080p just because it makes sense - I haven't seen 1080p via iplayer either but if they add it, we already support it
If the selected quality does not exist, JDownloader will simply download the BEST possible at the moment (not exactly like Jiaz has stated before).

2. The bitrate is not given via HLS download.
The differences are "random" and the current quality settings are only based on the resolution, no any other factor.

3. Keep in mind that the settings contain rounded standard-values.
The plugin actually works via ranges of resolutions - see this snippet of code:
Spoiler:
Code:
    private String getHeightForQualitySelection(final int height) {
        final String heightselect;
        if (height > 0 && height <= 200) {
            heightselect = "170";
        } else if (height > 200 && height <= 300) {
            heightselect = "270";
        } else if (height > 300 && height <= 400) {
            heightselect = "360";
        } else if (height > 400 && height <= 500) {
            heightselect = "480";
        } else if (height > 500 && height <= 600) {
            heightselect = "570";
        } else if (height > 600 && height <= 800) {
            heightselect = "720";
        } else {
            /* Either unknown quality or audio (0x0) */
            heightselect = Integer.toString(height);
        }
        return heightselect;
    }

JDownloader has no influence on the final exact resolution e.g. 466p ibstrad of 480p.

Regarding the fps differences:
Please post example URLs and tell us, which setting you used to get which resolution so we can check/fix/update that part

These are two urls I have tried with JDownloader:

**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

When I used the BEST setting in JDownloader, the first delivered a 720p @ 25 fps file, and the second a 720p @ 50 fps file. When I selected the 1024x576 option in the plugin (i.e. the next LOWER option below 1280x720) for the second url, iPlayer delivered the 720p @ 25 fps version.

If it is any help the following switches distinguish between 25 fps and 50 fps 720p versions when using get_iplayer:

--tvmode=hlshd (25 fps)

--tvmode=hls50hd (50 fps)

Thanks, log shows that HLS (what JDownloader processes) has the 720p@25 and there are also http streams (not supported yet by JDownloader). I guess those are the @50fps
I've updated the ticket,

@Jiaz
Which ones do you think, are http?
I mean all except rtmp are http protocol streams but I can only see hds, hls, dash.

Anyways - added framerate to selection.
Sorry, I haven't seen this before.
For the next update:
- Framerate is now in quality selection
- A lot of other improvements
- Once the download starts, you'll see the final videoresolution, protocol and framerate inside the filename
- Only temporary for testing: Once the download starts, you will be able to see the final downloadlink in the "comment" field of your URL in JDownloader

Unfortunately the plugin is not working now. I selected 1280x720@25, and also tried BEST, but in both cases the Availability of files is 0/1 Online, and when the download is started there is an error message "File not found".

I definitly had it working but forgot to commit parts of the new code which is why it never worked as intended - however, bugs may still occur^^
Happy testing
