Default an updated installer??

Hi mates, just noticed after installing a fresh win 7 and downloading the jdownloader from the official site, the windows installer is stil ver.9.3...

is there any chance you could make an updated installer? it just takes time to download an outdated installer and have it updated rather than have one that is at least a little more updated.

now i'm not saying we shpuld have an installer for every update (which is impossible as decrypter almost always update) but just that we have a not so far behind installer even if released at least every 2-3 months.

i think its about time we have a new installer after all. hope you don't get me wrong here mates, im very thankful for all the hard work everyone's been doing. just a little suggestion i hope somebody sees.

thanks

The download page of jD contains links to the latest versions. What's the version you see in ? -> About JDownloader?

Compquest is right.

The JDownloader installer is the 0.9.334 version.
The Public version is 0.9.579.

So installer must be updated to it.

The program will automatically update to the latest version after you install it. It is not the installer that is old, but just that there have been some bug fixes since then. We supporters actually asked for the update months ago, but the proper people were not available.

At this point, it is not slower to do the plugin updates. It is just a few minutes slower when initially installing JDownloader (I should know, I have 4 different versions on my computer).

Thank you for your help in this,
drbits

yes, i know it will update, i just think it would be better to have an installer that won't come from as far as .9.3..

and other sites, (softpedia, softonic..) has the .9579 installer and we at the main site don't have it.

anyway, thanks, will still wait for the release of a new installer.

Cool

Strange. I've checked one of those software download sites. On softpedia's download page ("**External links are only visible to Support Staff**) for jD I read "JDownloader 0.9.579 Brain" while all their screen dumps of jD windows mention jdownloader 0.4.495.

I have -xmas- Version 0.9.579. What's the difference between "Brain" and "xmas"?

On the updates page I see "Version 0.9.579 -brain-". Why does my version info (in the About jDownloader dialogue) read like "-xmas- Version 0.9.579"?

-xmas- was a renaming of the release last December, because there were a lot of plugin updates.

Before that it have been "pinky" and "brain".

OK, thanks for the info. I see that these specialised software publishing sites are as confused as I am.

People want fewer updates when they install. They do not realize that the updates would be approximately the same.

Tony,

It isn't difficult, but everything extra the developers have to do takes time away from development and the other things in their lives. This is voluntary work that started as a hobby when they had fewer responsibilities and when the program was a lot smaller less complex.

The managers hoped to have a new release available 2 months ago. There are still significant problems that must be solved before a new release. Any demands on their time (even answering questions) delay the release.

The stable release that is posted will not be an issue after the next release. It really isn't an issue now. It is version 0.09x and the most recent version is also 0.09x. The time to update an install is similar to the time to install a plugin update.

Repeated requests for things that are not essential will eventually make them grumpy. Asking questions like "is it hard" or "why not" are repeated requests.

I am one of the few people around here who actually has time to explain things in detail. I am "on holiday" from development and honing my people skills (how am I doing?)

Let me know if you have any more questions.
