Link Grabber Tutorial
So I've been using JD2 for a couple of days now and I find the link grabber really unintuitive.
I can't seem to make filters work at all and I can't seem to do what I want with views. It leaves me wondering in what way it was designed to be used so I'm wondering if there's any kind of tutorials to explain how to make the filters and views work for what you want. Here's an example of what I'd like to be able to achieve with filters/views: Only show video files over 1GB where host is not 'A' and 'B' and 'C' or archives under 1GB containing "X" in filename from all hosts. Can anyone explain how I'd do this? Cheers |

I still can't get my head around this. The way it's been set up seems so backwards to me and the URL testing just seems to report that all the links are allowed regardless of any views or filters I set up.
Without any idea of how it was intended to be used this is how I'd intuitively expect it to work: Views should be custom filters "gates" which filter all links which do not match. Therefore if I wanted to set up the following: Only show video files over 1GB where host is not 'A' and 'B' and 'C' or archives under 1GB containing "X" in filename from all hosts. I'd create the following 2 views: Then once I'd scanned all my links from a web page I could select these two views and anything which doesn't match either of these views would be filtered. Perhaps what I'm after here is custom filters (rather than views) which are available in the righthand side menu that can be selected or deselected (like views) after all the links have been scanned in. Hopefully someone understands what I'm saying here and can shed some light on this for me? Last edited by Unicorn!; 20.11.2012 at 14:12. |

If you want to filter links, use filter, view is something else.

But filters don't show up in the right hand menu so I can't apply or de-apply on scanned links. Only views seem to do this.

quick question, should the filters set up under settings be showing up in the link grabber sidebar and can they be undestructively applied or 'unapplied' (selected/deselected) to the links. I definitely don't see them in the sidebar.

Side bar is a view bar, there is no filter bar, use the filter or not is set in the settings.

Example to find avi and mpg and mkv insind the list.
At the Linkgrabber window use Filter like this; Insert: avi|mpg|mkv PS: Works also with file names. Last edited by guardao; 21.11.2012 at 20:26. |

If that's the extent to which we can filter it seems like a wasted opportunity so implement something comprehensive.
I'd like to request filters to be added to the side bar. I'd also still appreciate if someone can tell me how views should be used. |

I've just notice that views = filter exception.
For files over 1GB, after create the views, grab links, view column will show how many files are between 0-1GB, deselect the tick at rightmost of it, then only > 1GB files are viewed.

Use the keyboard (SHIFT + \ ) to insert this character - |
Use the column name ( Size ) to sort by size. |

I guess what I'm asking is to be able to save common filter terms to the side bar (just like views) rather than having to type them each time and also allowing us to combine them to refine filtering.
I still don't understand views and what it's for. |

Your request should go to suggestion and request forum.
I am learning with you, here is another way of thinking. Filter is used to block links, views is used to allow links that are blocked by filter, combine with something like statistics. Start with something simple, like filter pics with size 0-40KB, sometime you might need to allow small pics, so define views with size 0-40KB. Views will show how many blocked pics that can be unblocked by ticking the check-box. Your needs in post #1+2 are not simple and need real links to test. Practice makes perfect.
