With some file hosts I switch VPN servers to re-enable free download credit. However I have to manually keep checking JD if it's still running. Is there any way to receive a notification when downloads are "stuck/not running"?

Please ask in that thread for help/hint. Why not let JDownloader auto switch VPN? you just have to create a script/setup a tool that can do the *reconnect* automatically and then setup it as external reconnect method in JDownloader
