JDownloader Creating Folders
I just had to reinstall JDownloader and all of a sudden it's creating a separate folder within my designated download folder for my file.
How can I stop this? Thank You |

Thx, but I never enabled that. It suddenly created those folders.

@niemand: check if you don't have the subfolder placeholder within your default download folder
also please don't forget that changes in packagizer will only affect new links. Existing links in list are not changed

It just suddenly started and only by finding this thread could I stop it. I never changed the setting as I wouldn't even know where that was but I suspect an update changed the default setting. |

@Patr100
defaults haven't changed, though more likely that you changed it by mistake, its only a checkbox in package customiser, or either cleanup software removes files it thinks are not used or security software could remove them, with the latter two JD will then re-create config with default value.

I've got that option disabled yet for subsequent new downloads it still keeps forcing sub folders for some downloads. I think, I hope it is now reset again for now ...will monitor.
Don't know why is suddenly keeps doing this after years of use and not having added any new security programs lately., however I certainly notice there have been quite a few JD updates in the last couple of weeks. Last edited by Patr100; 28.08.2021 at 14:06. |

I haven't changed any settings for years. The subfolder for packages
(when enabled) is automatically created within my default download folder as I would expect, I havent added any extra folders. ie /downloads (for normal direct files) /downloads / <jd> package name Last edited by Patr100; 30.08.2021 at 20:19. |

@Patr100: I'm sorry but what exactly is the problem?
Either you have the Quote:
or you have the *subfolder* rule in packagizer enabled.

This has been still annyoing me in the past few months, googled and disabled that packagizer rule again (because I meanwhile forgot about this thread). Today got those folders again, checked packagizer and that rule was active, not by my doing.
I just want to get rid of that damn subfolders and have consitant behaviour. Last edited by niemand; 10.02.2022 at 10:56. |

@niemand
Did you read this support article? We're still unable to reproduce this issue. If you can reproduce it easily, please contact us again via support@jdownloader.org so we can check this together. -psp-

I can't reprocude it, it just happens. Today all 4 standard settings in Packagizer were checked again, I disabled two of them at the date of my last post. Only thing I noticed was the "updating" message when starting JD today.

maybe read/write or ownership permissions are incorrect?

I use this app on a daily base, I can't imagine it would work 18 days if thats the issue.

Their has been an update issued last friday which is the first in a month or two. This update would require the app to restarted in order to install. If it cant save the config due to permission issue, then it would still be on the wrong setting. Which is what you have reported to be. Changing the setting would be held in memory, even if saving changes can't happen (you see this a lot with unix/linux users typically, even lost links/lists).
else another similar outcome would be antivirus / security, or even file cleanup (cclean alike) software removing configs or components of the program which the program either self heals with updating and or creating new configs when missing (which everything is then at defaults).

@raztoki good idea but in this case he'd also experience other issues I guess.

And also "not everything reverted to default" in fact everything but paket rules is fine (stored passwords, accounts, download path, general appearance as I set it up with custom columns, router settings for reconnect, etc.). I would have noticed. Last edited by niemand; 01.03.2022 at 22:53. |

Again not on purpose and possibly only for you as we got no further reports.
When did this happen (date & time)? Please post your log-ID here | bitte poste deine Log-ID hier. -psp-

All the 4 standard checkboxes in Packagizer where I unchecked the one about creating folders was reset and checked again.
That's what I mean with all: one checkbox, all Packagizer rules reset to their default of being active. |

@niemand: thanks for the feedback. anything special about when/how you update your JDownloader
for example, is your JDownloader running and you shutdown windows/computer then?

Update is on auto, and it usually still runs when I'm shutting down windows, I never close it manually.

|

@niemand: thanks for the followup. most likely windows won't wait till JDownloader has properly shutdown/closed and write out all files.
maybe you can manually close JDownloader before shutdown of windows and check if the issue no longer happens then?

Ok maybe, still odd it only affects those specific settings and nothing else.
Would this only happen if an update is present and the shutdown happens? From the rarity this happens I would think so. On the manually closing part, I don't think I can remember, this is such an important tool I almost use on daily basis that it just always runs in background. I never close WebBrowsers, Email, Messenger and some additional smaller Tools like JD before shutting down Windows. |
#32
|
||||
|
||||
@niemand: Independent of updates. JDownloader writes out all its configuration files on shutdown and maybe other config files are affected as well you just don't notice as their default values are unchanged.

I understand but I just asked to try it out so we know if that may be a possible cause for this. I need some place to start looking for the cause/issue in order to fix it.So either a way to reproduce the issue so I can work on it or remove possible causes until the remaining ones are actual causing the issue

Since that means I would have to change my behavior for weeks (month even), to remember shutting JD down before windows I don't see that happening.
The timeframe is too large as this only happens on a monthly level and not a daily base, where I would try it a few times and see a change. So far its still good since 16th of march. |

@niemand: I'm already working on "shutdown detection" but that's not that easy but I just found a nice tool to "simulate" the necessary events
github.com/stefankueng/sendmessage/releases/tag/1.2.1 and that will help me a lot for development/testing

Yesterday that checkmark on the folder creation reappeared again. Anything, matching that date, on your side that could have happened with the program?
I remember having a crash during shutdown yesterday, but sill odd its always and only reactivating stuff in that specific part of the program. Last edited by niemand; 11.04.2022 at 15:53. |

You are talking about Settings->Packagizer->subfolder checkbox, right?
Only plugin updates today. Quote:
If there are issues with parsing the files, then maybe there are hints about it
