Default JRE query

I have the latest JRE v7.9 installed. When I try to launch JD v0.9.581 via its launcher application I get the following error: "This application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0" but if I launch JD Update instead the app works normally. However, the app doesn't seem to have updated at all because using the launcher again the following day always results in the error message.

Why is this and why will it run normally if I use JD Update? (Note: this has nothing to do with JD2.

@eisbaer
No. It has a security flaw that script kiddies are using to steal passwords with.

Then forget it because JD1 is not Java 7 compatible!

But that is EXACTLY my point. It isn't if launched by its own launcher but it is when you launch JD Updater and it works perfectly. I can provide a screenshot to prove it if you don't believe me. Alternatively, try it yourself.

I'm also using JD1 with Java 7 (although only for testing) and it seems to work fine but many others have problems with it so that's why we tell them to use Java 6.

Oracle maintain 1.6 still, when ever there is a patch to java they apply it to 1.6 if it's required. It's just as 'safe' as 1.7 at this stage, when oracle stop supporting 1.6 is when it becomes a security risk. If you want to use a fully jre1.7 complaint jdownloader please upgrade to JD2. Any issues in loaders in 0.9 or nightly, along with any issues with that version of jdownloader wont be fixed, all fixes are only applied to JD2 if still an issue.

None of the answers anyone has given have any relevance to the questions I asked in my original post and now this thread has been labeled "Declined"! What is declined? All I wanted to know was why JD1 won't run if I use its standard launcher but it will run perfectly if I run JDUpdate.exe?

Look, there is no request to fix anything and I am sure I'm not the only one who is eagerly waiting for JD2 to have the same functionality as JD1 (and be simpler to use). I just don't understand why JD1 runs perfectly only when JDUpdate is used...

If I remember correctly - Java 7 64 bit doesn't create system PATH variable for its binaries, it uses system associations and registry info. So EXE will not work because it cannot locate correct binaries to start. JDUpdate.jar is associated in system with java (JAR extension is recognized as Executable Jar Files and it start: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*" - note: its in my W7 32-bit) so double click on it will start update and then JD.
If you want jdownloader.exe to start add correct path to the system environment variable PATH (ask google about how to make it) or make BAT/CMD file with correct full path to java binary (it was explained many times in this forum how to make it)

Thank you editestowy. At last a real answer to the conundrum. And yes, my system is 64 bit. Now to locate where on this forum that explanation was made.
