Cool

Allow java.exe and javaw.exe in your firewall and virus software. Also disable html/web scanner in your virus software.

Also reduce Max.Con. (bottom right corner of jD window) to 1 or 2 and see whether that helps.

If this doesn't solve your problem, I'm afraid the developers can only work with a full and detailed log.

Look here for logging instructions.

If remi's recommendations do not work, I have another suggestion to try.

Open your browser to "panda.com". There is a free on-line virus scan (part of it involves downloading some software). If something happens suddenly like this with no software change that you know about, it could be a virus.

Panda also has a free downloadable program that helps you burn an emergency scan and repair disk. Once you burn the disk, you have an isolated Linux boot disk with a virus scanner. You might have to download the software and burn the CD on a computer that is not already virus infected. The advantage of this disk for Windows users is that it does not use the Windows OS, so a virus cannot hide from it.

Another on-line scanner is at free.antivirus.com

I have tried before with AVG Free v9 and it didn't work. A bit better in v.8.5 which I reverted to. Javaw.exe and java.exe were already in the Windows firewall exclude list.

I'm still getting very patchy functioning in latest JD using premium RS account; it works at full speed for a few 200MB files and then downloads trickle down to a very slow mode. Max con. & Max. Dls. both set to 3. Used to be 8 a few months back and worked like a charm.

ADDED: I'm running JD -xmas- v0.9.579 (fully reinstalled) with the latest java under Win XP SP3 (recently fully repaired) on a Q6600 with 4GB RAM. I am saving files to a D-Link DNS-323 NAS with 2x1.5TB drives in RAID 1 on a gigabit network with jumbo frames set to 9000. System freshly scanned for viruses and rootkits. Used to work fine before...

ADDED 2: Now I get a few minutes of full speed transfer (1MB/s) and then it's down to approx. 300kB/s for an hour or more. During that time JD GUI is very slow or does not respond at all. Then, suddenly, after a while, it returns to life.

ADDED 3: I *forced download* for a dozen 200MB files and had the most stable throughput (about 900kB/s total) for a solid 20 minutes and then it slowed down to about 150 kB/s where it has been for the last 15minutes or so. My system load was low and constant during that time and disks were not accessed except for JD. What could be causing this?

ADDED 4: I did a test: I killed explorer.exe in taskman. When it restarted I was back to 900kB/s in JD. Hope this helps.

ADDED 5: Well it didn't. This time when I restarted explorer.exe I stayed at the 200 kB/s level.

Looking for a solution...

Please look at the details before proscribing the "usual answers" -

Firwall
it's a very funny firewall if it stops you only for one application, after several downloads.
AntiVirus
I do have one (although not the one you use.) There were software changes - over the last week many changes were introduced to JD.

Cool

If the recommendations in my post #2 don't work, please un-install all your windoze defences and reboot your computer. This way you know for sure the problems are caused by a firewall or a virus software that aren't configured properly.

Sorry, yesterday I was very busy and I missed the fact that you're on W7 64 bits. The JRE 64 bits has several bugs. You need to use the 32 bits version.

Server returned HTTP response code: 503 for URL: http://jdownloader.org/pastebin

HTTP Error 503 = Service unavailable

Not a JD problem, but probably a full pastebin. We will have to wait for somebody to sort it out.

This problem is at the company hosting the Pastebin.
