Yes, but...

As reported before, I have no NOD32 installed. Even though, I actually removed all antivirus progs as well as JRE -- completely. The machine was restarted without antivirus, java clean install and JD loaded. Half of hour later the memory goes big (>550MB) and the same memory leak / IO behav came back.

If you want, I could observe the java env with a particular tool -- let me know what and I'll use it.

I know how hard is to develop a new prog -- and the consequent cleaning/tunning. I already know that this memleak may be unusual. So I understand that you may not be so moved to catch this particular bug. I don't blame you and the other devs at all, but it still exists in some machines.

Thanks for your effort and time, JD is a very valuable tool.

just noticed - javaw.exe is constantly increasing the memory usage (1 download, from rapidshare). It's XP/SP2, java 1.6.015b03.

and after ~5 min -

edit(2):
not sure if this means something, but when I minimize (to tray) the memory - seems to dorp down to ~20M and then - it starts increasing again. Each "minimize" - it's getting reduced again.

we are trying to find the cause of this...but because only very few have this issue it might take while....but be sure...we are on it

all information like

i did xy, then zs and then it started to increase mem usage
eg
i added 1 link,started download, clicked stop and whoops mem increase started (such things can help alot)

will help to locate the cause

I think many (or even all) HAVE the issue but do not report it since they do not notice/understand it...
Why not make a note of it the the download page for people to see?

edit:
ps: maybe this symptom of resetting the memory uplon minimize (no active downloads ) might give you some hint.

Default memory problem

all the time loading 1-2 files in 20-30 minutes from rapidshare or hotfile or depositfiles (all non premium) mem-usage goes up in taskman to 540-590mb with the new 0.8 version. JD is then hard to control, it feels like JD hangs, but reacts with 10-20 seconds delay, one cpu-core is fully loaded (java.exe takes 50% of my dual-core).

my config: win7rc x64, with jre 1.6u14 32bit, avira antivir, windows firewall.
I updated to jre 1.6u16 32bit, switched to 64bit jre, disabled all extension I used (unrar, hjsplit, JD tray light) - still the same problem, loading one 30 mb file from hotfile results in 370 mb mem-usage, loading a second file 500+ mb.

with older version 0.7 I had the same problem but not all the time and not so quick, 3-4 times in a week after 4-6 hours. problem with old 0.7 version also applies to winxp 32bit.

Thumbs down

Same problem here

Since the last update was released javaw.exe is consuming 99-100% of cpu causing system to freeze or to slow down to the extent that every action such as opening a folder takes 5-10 mins to execute.

Opening task scheduler and setting javaw.exe to Low Priority helps a little but it seems that the latest round of updates has fraked JD almost completely.

javaw.exe memory usage is running at 600,000k even at the completion of a download, i.e. JD is just sitting there yet it is causing 100% memory usage.

Default more info

- your OS, OS version, JRE version, firewall?
win7rc x64, jre 1.6u16 back to 32bit version, windows firewall

- what you're doing when the memory use increases
just loading 1-2 files from RS, DF or HF

- how many simultaneous downloads?
1

- how many links in your download pane?
sometimes 20 sometimes 100 (but in 15-20 packages)

- window minimised?
minimized to tray or size of window ?
my jd-window is not full screen, via aerosnap 50% of the screen
if extension jd-tray-light is enabled I using the minimize to tray, w/o JD is only in the background behind some other "front"-apps. makes no difference.

- what theme (Look - Style) are you using?
"windows style", other styles are still slow, I only have a intel gma950 gfx and T5600 core 2 duo.

- window decoration enabled?
no, to heavy for my system.

- extraction enabled?
yes and no, makes no difference

- other add-ons enabled?
yes (hjsplit, jd tray light) and no, makes no difference

other things:
speedmeter = off
reconnect = I don´t use this
file writing sfv/crc-check = on or off, makes no difference

I have a hunch, and I'm testing it now... I've replaced the style from "synthetica sky metalic" to the "substance legacy - default" one . I'll update you here on how it goes...

for now - it looks "promising", since it feels like the memory leak increase rate has droped ...

edit: status
After 3 hours here, 1 download from RS, peak mem usage is still only ~85M ... Looks promissing ... so, I suspect some of the new synthetica styles might have something to do with the issue ...

edit(2):
bad news: two downloads running now, and it gets to ~160M... the good news - is that for now - it holds and seems to not increase very much...

Default good news - windows style seems the problem

after my last post almost 3 hrs. ago I switched to style "synthetica simple2 D" (is this the default style in 0.8?) and memory is only up to 120mb downloading to whole time.

non-windows-style-speed is acceptable in 0.8, wasn´t in older versions.
(but I still prefer windows-style, coz it doesn´t destroy the whole look-n-feel.)

after current download is finished I re-enable the extensions and report back in a few hours.

edit:
status after 5 hrs. downloading - memory usage is only at 450 mb.

You may be onto something there, I have tried synthetica simple2 D for a few hours and memory usage seems much less. To be honest I do not like any of the new skins as they lack definition and it is hard to make out text, colours need to be more defined and less wishy-washy.

I will try windows style to see if that chews memory or not.

When the problem starts (IO activity, mem rising) threads (of the JD java process) are created and deleted in an endless loop, in a rate of one every two seconds cycle aprox -- it could explain the strange IO behav.

The thread
Code:
msvcr71.dll!endthreadex+0x31
and its stack
Code:
ntoskrnl.exe!ZwAssignProcessToJobObject+0x15
ntoskrnl.exe!KeQueryRuntimeThread+0x5e8
ntoskrnl.exe!CcPurgeCacheSection+0x240
ntoskrnl.exe!NtQueryInformationToken+0xace
ntoskrnl.exe!ZwSetSystemInformation+0x23
ntdll.dll!KiFastSystemCallRet
kernel32.dll!WaitForSingleObject+0x12
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0x50b25
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0x92595
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0x929a7
jvm.dll!JVM_MonitorWait+0xaf
jvm.dll!AsyncGetCallTrace+0x3facc
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0x53111
jvm.dll!AsyncGetCallTrace+0x3fc97
jvm.dll!AsyncGetCallTrace+0x3fd0d
jvm.dll!jio_fprintf+0x140
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0xaf354
jvm.dll!JVM_FindSignal+0x52d8c
msvcr71.dll!endthreadex+0xa0
kernel32.dll!GetModuleFileNameA+0x1ba
This happens soon after the JD start (some minutes), particularly when its window is visible (not minimized).

Perhaps the memory leak is the sum of unrecoverable bytes allocated in this cyclic, apparently misguided, behavior.

Edited: As said before, the amount of allocated memory increases more rapidly when the window is not minimized.

Default more good news

only ? ... :(
compared to 500+ mb after 20-30min this was improvement

@all
but I changed style again last night like rafi to substance legacy default and memory usage is:

only up to 172mb after 15 hrs.

even loading big files like 150mb from RS or HO or some 20-40mb files from DF. I also disabled again the unrar und hjsplit extension because they were never used, archives were never extracted (unprotected archives with no passwd).

Smile Appears to be solved at the user end - The Important End

Used windows style overnight and downloads progressed OK including unrar, mem usage seemed OK.

Update: yet another freeze up with javaw.exe consuming all available memory and cpu 100%

Can anyone confirm that a clean install fixes this problem?

@Juslookin
It's already known that Windows Style has the smallest impact on memory and CPU usage. Therefore, all my previous tests were done using exclusively this style -- as reported earlier in this thread.
Bottom line, sorry to break your mood, but nothing is solved yet.
