Default JD2 + Java

Hello everybody,

i installed JD2 on my new pc in february ... since than, my JD2 runs like a charm. But yesterday, i tried to run another program needed Java but it told me, no Java is installed.

So i tried to find out, which java i have:

- console > java -version didn't worked out
- i searched for any java folders inside program files and program files (x86) but didn't found anything related
- i opened the info in jd2, it states there is java 1.7._45 installed
- i searched the registry for java, found many javascript but no real java thing, only: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ej-technologies\exe4j\jvms\c:/program files (x86)/jdownloader v2.0/jre/bin/java.exe

So my questions are:

1) Will JD2 install an own java version in his home directory if no pre installed Java is found?
2) Java is porous like a swiss cheese, java 1.7._45 is kinda old, will these java version be updated sometimes or not?

Hi,

JD2 comes with its own Java version, it is on the folder "jre" (Which is into the install dir of JD2). When you install JD2, It installs the current Java version, which is not updated afterwards.

If you want to use the last Java version, install if from the official website. Then delete the content of the folder "jre", so JD2 will use the Java version of your OS.

Cheers,

So, for security reasons it isn't a good idea that JD2 won't update their own java version nor request any updates from user, isnt it?

BTW if i would reinstall JD2, would i bring a newer java version with it?

Hi,

1. The reason is because is not possible, that's is not a feature of JD2.
2. Yep, it will install the latest java version.

EDIT.
Btw, I have a virtual machine where I install the latest Java version, then I copy the Java folder of the virtual machine to the "jre" folder of JD2. In that way, I keep updated the Java version of JD2.

When Java is not found on system it will be provided. The provided java is out dated, but rest assured it's not 'installed' persay. It's provided so localised running of java/jars can be performed. It's not such of a security risk considering it has no tie ins with system PATH or system32/ (windows). So it can't be found by executing by outside applications. Applications that used provided java will do so by supplying path to the provided java, Or by the installer software via registery key 'ej-technologies\exe4j\jvms\'.

I have asked Appwork to provide updates for this if they are going to supply the Java, think the idea was todo so when JD2 goes final.
