browser no longer opens when set via advanced settings.
clicking open browser when the dialog pops up does nothing either. Default browser opens normally when set to null |

Please set your browser as default browser again.
In case this does not help, you can manually set the browser yourself , see https://board.jdownloader.org/showpo...29&postcount=3 In case you're on Mac, see some posts below for how to set it on Mac

Did you reset the browser as default as I suggested?
In case it still doesn't work, just setup the path yourself in settings as linked

it opens the default browser if I set it to default, but I want it to open a different browser
If I clear it and redo the setting it still doesn't open the browser in the command line |

There have been no changes in JDownloader and the fact that the default browser works, shows that this is no JDownloader issue.
So it looks like there is a misstake in the customized command line. Maybe changed path/variable/binary name? Can you please provide the value that you pasted into advanced settings?

Path is still valid? Maybe there has been an update to firefox and changed from 32 to 64 bit?
If you want we can take a look at this together via Teamviewer. You can check different tool, for example notepad and check if JDownloader is able to open that one? Firewall/AV may also cause issue that JDownloader is not able to start another process
