Debloat Jdownloader for Maximum Performance?
Does anyone know any tweaks to debloat and speed up Jdownloader especially for slow or low end PCs?
Windows or Java itself might be responsible for some performance issues. If you know any Windows or Java tweaks that work, that's also welcome. I think disabling Indexing Options helps a bit (but Windows Search may not work, you could instead use VoidTools Everything which is a faster alternative). Anyway, for Jdownloader: I think there was an ad-free installer, but I forgot the link and don't know if it makes a difference in the final installed Jdownloader. For Settings > Advanced Settings > I found out some filter settings such as: premium alert (disable) oboom (disable) Special Deals (disable) Donate (hidden, auto mode) Banner (disable) You can disable the speed meter graph by right clicking it and disabling "Speedmeter visible" For a fast computer, these might not make any noticeable difference but it could for a slow PC. I found this online too: "- Set logging to off by going to Advanced Settings and unchecking Log.Loglevel" I can't find this setting... "- Disable window decoration by going to Settings -> User Interface -> Window Decoration -> None" Also can't find this setting... And if you're desperate on an ancient computer, you can minimize and resize the window a little. Do you know any more performance tweaks? Finally, does Jdownloader use any telemetry, or hardware acceleration? If so, how can these be disabled? Thanks. Last edited by folderdownloader; 09.11.2024 at 03:25. |

None of this will make JDownloader any faster.
To "keep it fast", keep the number of items in your download list low. If you experience slow download speeds, read this: https://support.jdownloader.org/de/k...-downloadspeed If JD itself is slow for you, read this: https://support.jdownloader.org/de/k...loader-is-slow

Think the point the OP was trying to make, is less CPU/GPU cycles required when you turn some of these functions off. Turning clipboard monitoring off would be the next biggest gain, as it's checking (polling) all the time for changes. Even getting false positives when you copy a URL that we do support which the user doesn't intend to be picked up by JD.

Yeah I got that point though I think that most things won't be noticeable.-
Things that just came into my mind: - Use max 1 simultaneous downloads/chunks: https://support.jdownloader.org/de/k...ections-chunks - Linkgrabber: If you use the linkgrabber add links dialog: Disable pre parser: LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserenabled - Linkgrabber: If you use the linkgrabber add links dialog: disable auto extraction password search: LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserautoextractionpasswordsearchenabled - Settings -> General -> SFV/CRC check -> Disable -> You may actually feel this one - Settings -> Bubble Notify -> Show Bubbles if -> Never - Plugins: Some plugins got settings which let you prefer http connections over https connections. This can help when you are on an older machine. Exemplaric host with such a setting: 1fichier.com

Thanks for all the suggestions.
It's helpful for a low end PC when multi-tasking programs. I disabled automatic clipboard and only enable when I need to. Another tip I forgot about: A long time ago I installed Jdownloader version jre 1.8 which had performance problems. It was solved when I switched to the jre 17 version from the jdownloader download page. But it's possible this is outdated advice or system specific. Haven't yet tried version jre 21. Quote:
I'm tempted to disable the CRC check but it's probably not worth it in my case as I'm afraid of the possibility of file corruption. CRC seems helpful when it's available. Quote:
Can you tell me, what do the following two settings do? Quote:

Does Jdownloader use any telemetry? Does Jdownloader use GPU hardware acceleration? I'm guessing it does not but I would like confirmation to be sure. I prefer to turn both off if they are on, both for better performance and privacy. Does anyone know about these advanced settings I couldn't find? "- Disable window decoration by going to Settings -> User Interface -> Window Decoration -> None" Maybe this is an OS (Operating System) specific setting? "- Set logging to off by going to Advanced Settings and unchecking Log.Loglevel" Thanks. Last edited by folderdownloader; 12.11.2024 at 00:35. |

Whenever a plugin provides such a setting, this applies only for the download. Linkcheck and logins are always done via https as long as the website supports https. Quote:
If you still don't understand it, feel free to ask again. Search for: Code:
LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserenabled Code:
LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserautoextractionpasswordsearchenabled Some info about that: https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?t=95700 Quote:

Just make sure that debug logs are disabled (they are disabled by default), see: Log.debugmodeenabled

-Dprism.order=sw into Java Runtime Environment Settings (Control Panel > Java > Java tab > View) so maybe it's software rendering mode. Not sure if I did it correctly, or if it makes any beneficial difference. The Java version in Java Runtime Environment Settings does not even match the version in my Jdownloader installation! I'm not familiar with some of that java stuff, so I'll just have to give up on the hardware acceleration thing for now. Thanks. I searched these and looked at the description: LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserenabled Description: "If false, The 'Add Links' dialog in Linkgrabber works on the pasted text, and does not prefilter URLs anymore". I don't know exactly what this means, but I assume "Add Links" refers to File > Analyse Text with Links? LinkgrabberSettings.addlinkspreparserautoextractionpasswordsearchenabled Description: "Automatically search for possible extraction password in pasted text and show them in 'Add Links' dialog". How does it search for passwords? Is this only useful if you're highlighting, copying and pasting text from a website that says something like: Download link: (URL) Zip Password: (password) and you paste this, and jdownloader figures out "password:" must be referring to the compressed file's password? If that's the case, maybe I will disable it (I usually just manually write down any passwords) assuming it would help performance. Although, this setting is probably useful in cases where you have a long list of download links and passwords. Last edited by folderdownloader; 19.11.2024 at 11:59. |

No it is not, see:
https://support.jdownloader.org/know...vmoptions-file Quote:
If you do not need Java for other installed applications, you can uninstall the Java installed on your system. Quote:

Then again: Such tasks are not really demanding for a computer so most likely you will not notice any difference.
