Lightbulb What is Nightly and where do I get it?

Our so called "nightly" version is NOT meant to be a public release.
The nightly Version is a developer version only which enables us to test the latest source in "live-conditions" (updatesystem, dlc, packaging,...)

Thus, it often contains serious bugs.

DO NOT USE OR EVEN UPDATE TO NIGHTLY UNLESS WE TELL YOU TO DO SO!

Coalado

Another possibility to get the NIGHTLY-Version is to:

1. Create a new text document (eg. .txt) in the JDownloader-Folder
2. Write:
Code:
 java -jar jdupdate.jar -branch NIGHTLY
into it
3. and save the document as a .bat file

Now just execute it...

It worked for me using the method posted by Minos.

The new GUI looks sweet. BTW, what should I do when the next stable release comes out to stop updating from the nightly branch?

Yes, 10.535 was this week. We get new nightly builds at least as often as there are plugin updates. Sometimes we test a new feature and it is gone in the next release.

You shouldn't use Nightly if you do not have to or you are a very experienced computer user with some sys-admin background.

@mal93
First: You know that Nightly is only for experienced users. It is a test version. You take your chances using it.
Second: Why do you want to use Nightly (read the first post in this thread).

Make sure you backup your database (Ctrl+B).

Try
Code:
java -Xmx512m -jar jdupdate.jar -restore -branch NIGHTLY
You might have to remove the -X parameter if your version of Java does not support it. However, it might be necessary.

If it still does not work, look in your JDownloader directory for update.log or updateLog.txt. Also look for restarter.log or restarterLog.txt.
Combine these in a RAR archive and attach to a message in this thread. To attach, click Go Advanced, then scroll down and click Manage Attachments. The rest should be obvious.

I have a problem with the update of JD language.

I have an account to save in SVN repository the langauge file.

Started nightly build (build 15949).

Load langauge file. Edit it.

Then I select "Sve and sento to SVN".

I got an error

No entry at URL "svn://svn.jdownloader.org/jdownloader/trunk/resourcen/jd/language"

What can I do ?

Thanks.

M$: "Beta"=Test,

Nightly has a lot of fixed bugs, a lot of new features, and a few new bugs. If you read Coalado's (one of the project managers) message at the beginning of this thread, you will see that he recommends that people only use Nightly if they have a problem that is fixed in Nightly.

I use Nightly almost every day, because I am testing it for any major problems. However, there have been days when it hasn't worked at all.

The discussion so far has been Nightly related, so I will not move it.

Please move further discussion of RSS to the RSS thread.

I have no choice but to switch to nightly, the filewriter plugin appears to be broken in version 0.9.580 - no one seems to be reporting it or cares :/

Please provide a detailed bug report as required in the General Bugreport forum and please don't don't report a problem with the Stable version in the Nightly forum.

Why would I report the bug when it's obviously fixed now?

Wie switche ich zur Stable zurück? Ich habe den Konsolenbefehl oben schon mit STABLE ausgeführt, aber etwas macht mich stutzig:

BRANCHINUSE=stable, BRANCH=STABLE, SERVERLIST=[http://update0.jdownloader.org/branches/NIGHTLY/ (-1%), http://update1.jdownloader.org/branches/NIGHTLY/ (-1%), http://update2.jdownloader.org/branches/NIGHTLY/ (-1%), http://update3.jdownloader.org/branches/NIGHTLY/ (-1%)]}

Executing / Ausführen von

Code:
java -Xmx512m -jar jdupdate.jar -restore -branch STABLE
java -Xmx512m -jar jdupdate.jar -branch RESET
in your jD folder should to the trick / in Ihrem jD Ordner sollte es tun.

Last edited by remi; 28.09.2011 at 12:53. Reason: -restore; RESET instead of STABLE

The NIGHTLY updates come out when the developers have something they want us to test. Remember, that is the purpose of NIGHTLY. We usually also get an update when the plugins are updated.

I usually expect 1 to 10 updates a month in NIGHTLY.

Default Both versions?

I've been using Nightly for a long time now (too long) because I was told to do so as there was a problem with one of the plugins (depositfiles if I remember correctly).

Because some functions don't seem to work in Nightly I'm changing back to Stable version but wanted to know if it's possible to run both?

I would use the regular version and only use the Nightly if there is a (temporarely) problem with one of the plugins.

The NIGHTLY changelog is http://svn.jdownloader.org/projects/jd/issues

The latest release is 13350. So, all changes applied after that revision have not been released yet. Note, the changelog includes both revisions and bug tracker issues (bugs, feature requests, and comments).

Clicking on the number of a revision or issue should display the associated information. I have heard reports that not everybody can display the information. If you have a problem, please e-mail support@jdownloader.com. Remember to include your username.
