its like, when i download it from your official website, its because of i trust your installer and program, so this is fraud. If you want Money make it shareware or trial. ppl don't deserve that you harm their comp's.
I quit to use your program..

Wrong, you can deselect the adware.
Stop discussing again or I'll temporarily close this - we already discussed this!

Yandex elements?
I don't understand a word.
All adware bundles should be deselectable - if not, this would be a bug!

try to insall via website, it lets you only choose to install yandex and make yandex start page.. there isn't any option to BrowserMark.. it comes automatically when you install jd.

I recently installed jDownloader on my new laptop (FROM YOUR OFFICIAL WEBSITE nonetheless) and now my browsers are infected with tons of malware.
To a point where they are basically useless

I have been using your program for several years now on my stationary computers.
But this is completely unaccaptable.

I am saddend to say that I will now move on to a different, non-virus infected, program for my download needs.

edit: and no there was no option to prevent sweet-page and co from installing

I installed this on my brand new laptop, and now I have to reformat it. I just got this 5 hours ago... Never will I use Jdownloader and everyone I know will hear of this scam. You may make some money now by giving innocent people viruses, but your reputation is going down the drain and pretty soon, no one will ever trust you or your programs.

Default Online version is full of malware

Hi,

I use jdownloader on linux and windows for years...

today I download the last version of webinstaller from your site (version 2.0.0.2), if you want I can post the sha1 digital sign...

When web installer starts browser closed automatically and in explorer, firefox and chrome the default web page change to "speedial.com", if I remove it from settings and restart the browser, the homepage returns to speedial.com...

In a new tab we have a SpeedDial "app" and in many sites the browser add ads to the sides of the pages.

I try to install jdownloader with a old version of webinstaller and it seems to work fine.

IMHO this is very dishonest, now I will analyze this thing and report this... and I'll never use or recommend your product to anyone.

Your answer is very ridiculous, if you put adware like toolbar or so, but let the users CHOOSE IF install it or not, it's OK... but you have insert malware (because there is no user interaction and this malware can not be remove with standard procedures).

I'm very disappointed because I use jdownloader for years, I think that your greed will ruin your software

Users CAN CHOSE it!

GreeZ psp
EDIT

Post a screenshot and I'll tell you where you can chose it.
Post screenshots of all installer steps you went through.
And my answer is NOT ridiculous!

I saved the webinstaller.exe with malware and in this days I will analyze and post the analysis, for this I have to use a virtual machine so I need some time but I'll do that, don't worry.

Maybe in the actual online version there are some errors or someone hacked your server, I don't know (maybe you have to check the online windows version...) but I'm sure of what I'm saying: there is no user interaction and you can not reset the default page or remove ads in webpages (in "standard" way).

Well we can't exclude bugs BUT as always, the "skip ads" options are a bit hidden.
Our installer looks different depending on your location (IP) but the ways to skip ads that I know are:
-Press a SKIP button instead of next (to SKIP the TOS of the ad stuff)
-Enable Advanced setup to disable ad stuff

Of course you can analyze the installer and post screenshot and your findings here.
All I can say is that I was always able to deselect all adwares of the JD installer when I installed it on computers of friends

Because webinstaller.exe downloads differents JDSetupxxxx.exe and I remove the version "incriminated" I cannot do a compete analysis.

The installer downloads different type of JDSetupxxxx.exe randomly, one with sweet page malware... one with some other chinese things...sometimes with clean installation without malware.

Maybe paying attention we can avoid the installation but there is a problem that still remain:

This "adware" cannot be removed in standard way, if I configure my homepage to Google.com when the browser restarts it returns to the adware pages.

I think that you have to post a guide to remove adware and be more clearly.

Remember that Appwork GMBH is located in EU and it's a company so you have some responsability.

It's nice that you are helping, and I don't blame the developers, if they don't have to do anything with this issue.

A User, that doesn't know about this issue and that don't want to waste time, will install the Program from the website and easily overlook the options not to install this ridiculously annoying software.
Just understand that this is a huge break in the trust in this company in general and I want you to know that's the reason why we will not use this program again.

Have a good day.

Default I don't buy it

From my point of view, there is no innocent people in this business.
With all the sympathy for the development team work and effort, I know what means as I am a developer too and I did this kind of work exactly, I am sure that JD is made to get some money and chose this solution being aware of the technology and what it involves. Why not be based on donations? Are they so sparsely done? I'd rather pay for the software than get some adware, spyware, bloatware etc.. Really people, there is always a clean solution.

Regards.

SOLVED???? This is a disaster! Everyone is having the same problems.

First off please stop inserting all this Malware into the setup it's constantly being flagged by my anti-virus.

Secondly...once this update cycle starts there's no fixing anything.

I've tried the webinstaller it just sits at 0% and does nothing and I've tried to download the version that was listed in here but it doesn't work either and gets snagged by my anti-virus over and over and I've attempted to install to a new directory with no success.

I even attempted to restore my system but that doesn't seem to solve anything either.

Just signed up to add my experience. I've been using JDownloader for years. Decided to finally update to JD2. I declined the offer to install the adware in the setup page. JDownloader installed so did Search Protect. Please include a notice if you are going to force adware regardless. You guys have created a brilliant software, it's a shame to see it cheapened by such underhanded and dirty tactics. I'll be uninstalling and switching to IDM and recommending all my downloaders to avoid JD.

Hello pspzockerscene. I joined the forum just to post in this thread, which I have read from start to finish. Thanks for responding as best you can to the concerns voiced in this thread.

I love jdownloader, and all the things it can do. I have not updated it for some time, and am wary of doing so.

I accept what you say: adware installation can be declined as long as you check "advanced setup" box, and then decline "offers" as they come up. I nevertheless remain wary.

I note, from what I read on this thread, that even sophisticated, experienced computer users are somehow missing the need to check the "advanced setup" box.

The significance of that setup box is not clearly spelled out-- probably because jdownloader developers are HOPING the box will be missed, and that the nasty adware/malware companies that have paid to ride jdownloader's popularity will be able to infect yet another computer. They've got to make living (?) and so do you; I get it.

Like it or not, this program's reputation has sunk very low. All because what was a labour of love at the beginning of jdownloader's life has apparently become an enterprise driven by financial considerations; perhaps to cover expenses, but more likely because of greed. jdownloader is (was?) so popular someone must have figured out lots of money can be made from it.

So-- before jdownloader's reputation sinks lower, I have three suggestions for its developers:

1. Make the importance of the "advanced setup" box plainer. For example, an instruction that says, at the start "If you want to have the option to decline the installation of other programs, you MUST check the advanced setup box".

2. Be choosier in what companies, and what programs, you allow to come bundled with the jdownloader installer. Some of the current programs sound absolutely nasty. Some of them sound as if they are impossible, or close to impossible to remove. They must have paid a lot to ride on jdownloader's reputation. The money is not worth it. You don't want jdownloader to be associated with the worst of malware and spyware programs.

3. As has been suggested, do the program development needed to offer a paid for version that comes with nothing but jdownloader.

One thing puzzles me. jdownloader is open source, modified by programmers for no other reason except a desire to make it better, am I right? They are not getting paid, am I right? Why is there such a great need for money from questionable sources such as malware and spyware programs?

I hope jdownloader's developers find a way deal with these problems, else I an afraid that what others have said will come to pass-- people will move to other download managers.

Cheers,

wolfman

Well as said, I understand your critics but:
1. The adware in JD is adware, NOT malware and by far not "the worst".
You can remove it and if not, we'll help you!

2. We can chose but most of the bundled adware is downloaded depending on your country and other factors - it's an online installer.

3. Yap we know!

GreeZ psp

P.S. We're still the same people which developed JD from the beginning - we have not turned evil (oh god, sounds like bad English, sorry.)
