This is a feature that I dont use a lot but I am using it even less now due to the fact that when I click on it nothing happens. Any thoughts. Is this something in firefox?

What browser version are you using? Do other *open browser* features work? For example Settings-Accounts-Buy ?
Or Captcha in Browser (Extension) ?

Open in Browser only works in case the Link is available. In case you've added the link via Container (DLC,CCF..) then this method will not work
