@InfernoRock
false positive, JDownloader2.exe within any installation path (eg \users\username\appdata\local\JDownloader 2.0\) is just a loader to start JDownloader (finds Java and starts program). It doesn't contain any malicious content. So your solution is to either make exemption for JDownloader install path not to be scanned or just the binary itself (exe), and or consider replacing AVG with a different antivirus product.

This is a false positive. Please report it as false positive to AVG as soon as possible to prevent AVG deleting it from other computers as well. Thanks for the Feedback

I said this yesterday but since you blocked my commenting privileges this long so here it is. I was your avid user. I been using it since 08 and decided to update to JD 2 beta, downloading it straight from your official download page. And you stab me in the back by having the web installer puts malware into my system. I donated to you guys before, and this is the so likeing low and demented. This isn't from some cnet or softonic or torrent, it's straight from your official page.

Shut up, no I could not opt out of these malware. There was no OPTION! All I could do was let it download the files and just click next.

Thank you for a painful and very meaningful lesson. I was a moron to trusted an official DL page. So many years of malware run free and you guys engineered such a easy plan to crack into our system: like your long time users. I guess a small price of losing one insignificant customer. Out of spite or out of concern, I'll advise people I know of this sick scheme.

I wish the sick likes who did this anything but good wishes.

Default Replace the adware installers with revenue from Patreon

Let's be honest, nobody likes adware and the only reason you have it included in installers is so that you will get a little compensation for your work. While I'm strongly against adware I do understand why you chose to include it. But what if there was a way to replace the adware revenue with revenue from donations? There is a website called **External links are only visible to Support Staff**Patreon that is sort of a subscription based crowdfunding site. The donors are called Patrons and set an amount that will be automatically donated once a month to the creators they support. What if you created a JDownloader page on Patreon and set the goal to remove the adware from the installers once the Patreon revenue is high enough? And also to help further the development of JDownloader.

Here are some examples of open source software projects on Patreon:
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
**External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**

Appwork provides 'optional Adware and Adware free' installers. Whilst I personally don't like Adware as much as the next person, and nor does Appwork for that matter, but in the real world costs have to recouped and Adware covers that requirement (not just for our project but for many). We have ideas for further revenue streams (recent changes: Contribute tab), and most likely subscription based value added services, just to name a couple ideas.

I don't see Patreon fitting in with this type of approach, but then again I'm not Appwork so please wit for them for an official answer.

I like the Patreon approach, but it does somehow conflict with the Contribute Tab.
But we will think about adding it.

I see it as another option that can exist alongside with the Contribute Tab. People can choose which donation method they prefer. The main benefit with Patreon in my opinion would be that donors can check the progress of the donation campaign and get encouraged when they see that other people have donated and the campaign is working.

There is now a feeless open source alternative to Patreon called Liberapay: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
This is how a Liberapay donation page looks like: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
I think that could be used alongside Patreon and the the donors get to choose which service they prefer to use.

Payments come with no strings attached. You don't know exactly who is giving to you, and donations are capped at €100.00 per week per donor to dampen undue influence.
Donations are public. By default, the total amount you give and the total amount you receive are public (you can opt out of sharing this info).
Liberapay does not take a cut of payments, recipients get the full face value. The service is funded by the donations to its own account.

Who is Liberapay?
Liberapay is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 in France by Changaco and Zatalyz.

Default Is JDownloader installing bloatware?

Just installed Windows 10 on a box and in the process installed various software so I can't be 100% sure but it looks like JDownloader 2 installation I downloaded directly from http://jdownloader.org/ also pushed two very intrusive applications which changed my browser settings to the point where I could no longer change my default search engine and home page and kept offering some type of support... can someone confirm this?

The default installer offers adware during installation. read here for more information https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...g-installation. You can deselect/skip it during installation. You can also use the adware free installer from http://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2.

yeah but what is adware u are talking about?
Is it adware that shows up in the jd2 while it is running
or bundle with the software when u installing?

and how it looks different?

Are u talking about the banners within jd2 that advertises buying upload accounts?
so if i downloader adware free version I won't get any such banners at all

Adware=Bundles the installer will install(eg toolbars, search providers) see
https://support.jdownloader.org/Know...g-installation

The banners/ads within JDownloader is no adware. You can disable those in advanced settings if you like

If you don't install any bundle, then we will not make anything out of it.
In advanced settings, search for banner.

Default Bing's Installation

Hello everybody,

I'd like to report this "problem" because it is one, when Installing JDL2, I unchecked the stuff for bing, and disagreed to the thing that comes next (I don't remember what it was), yet after the installation, my search engine was changed to bing, and also some of my settings.

We are sorry for the inconvenience. It looks like you've overseen a checkbox or clicked continue accidentally without declining the installation of the optional adware. You should be able to normally uninstall it by normal OS uninstall practices. If you need help with this, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you with help of a Teamviewer session.
You can also find an adware free installer here http://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2
You can read more about it here

@Marialie
the optional adware is delivered by the installer not the files installed to its path.
either removed Avira as its poor solution for security software, or add exemption.

Default Antivirus critical Ransomeware warning during JDownloader installation

I downloaded the standard Windows install of JDownloader (directly from this site) containing the Bing browser, etc. (I turned all those 'extras' off.) Anyway, during installation of JDownloader, my antivirus displayed the two ransomware warnings listed below.

The second warning seems to be just a Windows JDownloader installation shortcut being removed. (I have to wonder why it needs to be added though, only to be removed again.) However, the first warning *seems* to indicate the JDownloader installation is attempting to delete ALL files from my Windows desktop!

-----

Ransomeware Protection blocked changes

Module: Ransomeware Protection

Bitdefender blocked a potentially unsafe application that attempted to change or delete your files protected by our Ransomeware Protection feature.

Targeted file: desktop
Targeted folder: c:\users\owner
Blocked application: c:\users\onwer\appdata\local\temp\in0db19a7d\1b8ab4ba_stp.exe

If you recognise and trust this application, you can allow it access to your protected folders by adding it to the trusted application list.

-----

Ransomeware Protection blocked changes

Module: Ransomeware Protection

Bitdefender blocked a potentially unsafe application that attempted to change or delete your files protected by our Ransomeware Protection feature.

Targeted file: continue jdownloader installation.lnk
Targeted folder: c:\users\owner\desktop
Blocked application: c:\users\onwer\appdata\local\temp\13134280242813109805.exe

If you recognise and trust this application, you can allow it access to your protected folders by adding it to the trusted application list.

----

Also, while I was browsing this forum for anyone posting a similar experience, I noticed there is a clean version of the JDownloader installter available - without Bing, etc. I hadn't even opened JDownloader yet. So I uninstalled the first installation, and installed the clean version instead. During that second install, NO ransomware warnings were triggered.

Any comments/explanations?

@RealFamilyMan: The installer with optional adware might trigger warnings/false-positives because it tries to contact server for the bundles which then get blocked/cause warning. You can easily decline/skip those bundles during installation or use the adware free installer from http://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2

Default installer query?

...and links to malware downloads as the "jdownloader installer". That's already bad enough, but it doesn't stop there. It took me one hour to find a non-malicious link to download the original JDownloader. What happened???

Default PUA:Win32/InstallCore malware in JD2 installer

Windows Defender attacked JD2's web installer today claiming it contains malware with a severe rating. I am attaching a screenshot.

**External links are only visible to Support Staff**Here is a link to Microsoft's knowledge base about this malware in which you can see JD2 is listed in the Technical Information section.

At the moment it is quarantined. Should I remove it or restore it?

InstallCore is our bundling partner. We are aware of the issue and will take care of it.
It's just a warning and no malware but bundleware. The installer is the same since long time.
You can skip/decline installation of adware during installation.
