Hi. I am trying to repurpose my old Xiaomi Redmi 3s with 2GB RAM and QC SD430(ARM64) purely for downloads. Its currently running A11 custom ROM but switching to Ubuntu Touch is a destructive process so I am trying to get information beforehand if its possible or indeed even practical.
JDownloader runs in Raspberry Pi and a bunch of other ARM devices running Linux. Has anyone tried it in Ubuntu Touch or Post market OS? Thanks. |

It may be possible to run Java on Ubuntu Touch and JDownloader as well, but most likely only in headless/no GUI mode becuase I don't think that Ubuntu Touch does use the same supported graphic environment as on normal computer. If you are already running a custom ROM, maybe you can get Java running on it and then avoid installing Ubuntu Touch. It should be possible to run JDownloader on headless mode if you can find a supported/working Java version.
Just my two cents. I would not recommend downloading directly to your phone flash but prefer to use external drive/SD card to avoid heavy/lots of writes to your internal flash.

I couldn't find any way to get Java apps running in Android so thought of trying ARM Linux. I read that Ubuntu Touch includes "Libertine" which is a container for running Linux programs made for the desktop.
There's also WINE for Android but it's limited to running ARM apps for Windows in ARM devices. Yes I am using a 128GB UHS-I microSD for downloads. Thanks for replying. Last edited by amn87; 08.06.2021 at 12:09. |

Well, in that case...feel free to test it and feedback would be nice
![]() Repurpose the old phone by installing Ubuntu Touch sounds like good plan instead of just letting the phone age and no longer use it.
