Default Number of download chunks gradually decreasing

I set my max number of chunks per download to 20 and started my download. It was downloading at 20 chunks but in the last 30 minutes or so it gradually dropped to 15, which is drastically slowing my download speed (from 2h30min to 5 hours now).

I right-clicked on the download and under Properties where I can specify the max number of chunks, I specify 20 but it refuses to move from 15. I read in another thread that the number of chunks is also determined by the setting at the start of the download. Previously I had a download stuck at 3 chunks (the starting number) even after setting the max to 20. I cancelled the download and restarted it from scratch, specifying 20 chunks, and it then worked.

But now this next download I did the same thing and it's gone from 20 to 15 and won't increase. What can I do to get the number of chunks back up to 20 and make it stay at 20 without having to start the download from scratch?

Is it actually being looked into though? Because if the ticket was created 11 years ago and progress is still on 0%, that's a bit concerning

@Anon123: current download system only has static chunks/connections = split file into x streams and download them.
the next gen download system will be able to handle this and dynamically start new chunks/connections as others finish/stop

But is there a way to prevent the number of max chunks from decreasing during the download at least?

I'm now down to 13 chunks since my initial post for the same download and these speeds are terrible now. I went from 2.3MB/s and now at 450kB/s at best.

@Anon123: you should not have to rely on many connections in order to get high speed. this is a sign that either a single connection is throttled or bad/slow connection for single connection

Unfortunately I have to set it to 20, otherwise I get horrific download speeds. I have a premium account with the file share I'm downloading from so I'm not throttled (when I used a free account i was limited to 250KB/s, with premium I've been able to get 3MB/s). I use to have my chunks set to 2 or 3, but then I only get at best around 64KB/s, whereas with 20 chunks I reach 3MB/s.

The download has now dropped to 10 chunks and the speeds are substantially worse as a result. I agree I shouldn't have to rely on so many and I understand why, but for whatever reason if I don't set it to 20 chunks, I get speeds that are worse than early 1990s dial up connection.

Is there an estimated release date for the next gen system?

Sorry for the late response, things got a bit chaotic this side. So the service I'm using is uploadhaven.com. If I try download it on any browser the speeds are just terrible (I'm lucky to reach 100KB/s), but that's the browsers themselves downloading slow because no matter what I download from where on the internet, the speeds are poor.

But now the problem has gotten worse. If I try download something, JDownloader refuses to download anything if the Max number of chunks per download are higher than 1. If I set the chunk size to 2 or higher, the download just says "Starting...", then it does nothing, "Starting..." and then nothing, "Starting..." and then nothing, over and over until it eventually says "Temporarily Unavailable", even though the site and its content is available and working. I then have to skip the download and force start it where it will go in a loop of "Starting..." and nothing again, until eventually it works but only when the chunk size is set to 1. When the chunk size is set to 1, the download starts off with respectable speeds (around 500KB/s), and after about 15 minutes it plummets drastically and from that point on I can't get higher than around 220KB/s, and about 90% of the time it sits at around 60KB/s. My most recent download of 12GB started off from taking 4 hours to complete, to more than 1 day to complete with very erratic increase and decreases in speeds. Checked my internet connection and everything is working fine and stable.

I'm sorry but that speed is not JDownloader-related.
You will most likely get the same speeds for that file when manually downloading it via browser.

The next CORE-update will fix this issue as we hardcoded-limited uploadhaven.com free downloads to max 1 chunk.
