JDownloader and cookies. Privacy concerns.
Does JDownloader store cookies? And if so, how does that work? Does it store cookies in a browser or in JD itself?
This is sort of a general question but still mainly aimed at downloading from Google related sites like Youtube. The reason why I ask is for the sake of privacy. I want to be in control of things like cookies but I have no idea how JDownloader handles that. Is it possible / necessary to delete cookies in JDownloader? Can someone explain to me how that works? |

Highly depends on the JD plugins you use (= the websites you are downloading from).
Quote:
Depends on the plugin. Specifically talking about google/youtube: As long as you do not proactively add your own cookies, JD does not store any cookies. Not really but JD is using cookies differently than how you'd use them in browser. t uses them where necessary (e.g. tell a porn site "I'm over 18 years old" and sometimes they are technically needed. Is basically only uses them when technically needed. In some cases, login dialogs may ask the user to import their browsers' login cookies, see: https://support.jdownloader.org/de/k...n-instructions TL;DR The typical privacy concerns you may have when using a browser are not given when using JDownloader.

Ok, thanks for your replies so far. But just to give myself a better understanding, is there still some similarity to browser cookies as in different levels of privacy stuff? Like functional, analytical and marketing cookies? If yes, then does JD automatically only allow functional cookies (and not analytical and marketing cookies) in the event that it does need cookies? Kind of like what some ad blockers can do.
Is there a way for the end user to manually delete cookies in JD? Or do cookies get deleted from memory automatically after a specific time by JD? |

@boeithet: That's not how JDownloader works. JDownloader does not use/have any *browser* engine that does requests/execute javascript and so on. Plugins are doing exactly just those requests with the server, required to download the file. No automatic execution of any javascripts, nor doing any other requests except those explicit coded into the plugin. Hence the only cookies in use are the ones that are set by http responses or explicit in Plugin by developer when required to work with site. There is no analytical/marketing and other stuff as there are no other requests done. It heavily depends on plugin if each download starts with fresh/empty cookies or session cookies. Also heavily depends if you download with/without account as this might also incorporate cookies or not.
In short: No, there is no way to manually interact with cookies within JDownloader. There is no need to manually mess with the cookie handling.
