I'm thinking of all the times I used JD as a generic catch-all http downloader, and now you tell me I could have been missing all kinds of files without knowing it?

we only listen to select file extensions, you can add your own outside of us by linkcrawler rule.

JDownloader has site specific plugins , eg instagram or google drive and thousand others and then some known file extensions. You don't want JDownloader to download/request your *pay xy dollar to z* link
As JDownloader monitors the clipboard a catch-all would basically mean, every link(shopping, social media...) would be processed by JDownloader and I'm sure neither you nor we do want that to happen
