Can figure out restoring links
I just accidentally deleted a folder of links.
I googled and searched the forum for restoring links. Can't find a simple explanation for newbies of how to do this. I got as far as backing up my current list (after accidentally deleting the links) but cannot find instructions for restoring my list from an hour ago. I found five or six "downloadlistXXXXX.zip files in the cfg folder. Loaded the earliest one, but it was created after the accidental delete. Is loading downloadlistXXXXX files the only way to restore lists? Are my links gone forever? There are no files with link lists from an hour or two ago? At the moment you realize that you have accidentally deleted a link, go to cfg folder, move or make a copy of the lists to another folder, close JD, leave a correct list in cfg folder then start JD.
It seems too late now, sorry.

Think you're better off to close JD first because if your adding links or downloading, config saves will happen incrementally all the time. In the process it will remove old lists as it creates new ones.
Also you can check for backups/ in jd install directory, or even system restore points? raztoki

You can only rescue your links when you backup the existing files directly after deletion. I'm sorry but one hour -> no chance you will be able to restore the links.
When this happens, react fast! I will soon add session based backups, so jd creates backup of list on each startup.

well depending on how many lists you make jd create you can restore from hours ago

yes thats right, but for default 5 lists 1 hour is...no chance

Is there a setting I can change regarding only creating one hour's worth of lists? Or is that setting hard-coded?
I know I can manually create backups. I'm just wondering if I can automate saving lists, say, every day for a week. And thank you for your help with these replies. I have a better understanding of this process now. |

Its not about time. Whenever something got changed -> changes will be written to disk to new file after x seconds no change (delayed). so no changes to list -> no writing
I will add a backup of list on each startup soon (also customizable) that way you can restore to the point that it was on startup. But of course I could also add some settings to tell keep backup of last x mins.

You have two options
1.) close JD as fast as possible, go to cfg folder and rename linkcollector.zip with largest size to the one with highest number 2.) drag/drop cfg/linkcollector.zip with largest size into the Linkgrabber (it will import it again)

Ok thanks !
And the "...backup" files, what are they used for ? |

In case JDownloader fails to load a list, it creates a backup of it. That way we can check what has happened and maybe rescue the list.
