I am currently dual booting between Windows and Linux. Since most of my links are on the Windows side, I cannot download when I'm on Linux, how do I keep the progress of downloads and links when on either system? I download to the same folder on Windows even when on Linux.

EDIT. Okay, I got it to show by copying the 'cfg' folder to the linux folder, now I can just copy the cfg folder back to Windows to resume from there? There won't be any corruption? I also have to keep on changing the download location... Most likely due to a file in the 'cfg' folder. Which one is it so I don't have to keep on changing the download location. Thanks in advance

Use the exact same JDownloader installation and use a downloadfolder that is within your JDownloader folder. JDownloader then will autoconvert the paths.

Yes, your approach will also work, but you always have to change location manually.

Hi Jiaz, sorry I'm new to Linux but how do I install the Linux version in the Windows directory? I can't do it the other way since Windows can't mount Linux partitions.

One last query
I'm now using a single installation, but isn't autoconverting the paths correctly. Back on Windows it says:

D:\run\media\malim\LocalDisk\JDownloader\Downloads\run\media\malim\LocalDisk\JDownloader\Downloads

When it should say: D:\JDownloader\Downloads (for Windows)
And: /run/media/malim/LocalDisk/JDownloader/Downloads (for Linux)

The setting is checked. My default is the Windows folder: D:\JDownloader\Downloads

Hi Jiaz, I don't know if I should create another post but what's worst is if I forget to change the location, then JDownloader will carry on downloading as though it is downloading in the correct location. Please wait for next core update. Should be fixed then. Please keep in mind that broken paths will not automatically be fixed. But it should work for fresh/new ones

I tried to follow the instructions:

- I chose a path in the JD2 install directory
- I activated the box in Settings-Advanced Settings-GeneralSettings.convertrelativepathsjdroot

My JD2 install path is
- in Windows: P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2
- in Ubuntu: /mnt/data/Programme.Windows/JDownloader 2
which is the same folder.

If I set the download directory in Windows: P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads
I get in Ubuntu: /home/chemo/P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads with "P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads" being a single folder (note the backard slashes)

If I set the download directory in Ubuntu: /mnt/data/Programme.Windows/JDownloader 2/Downloads
I get in Windows: P:\mnt\data\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads\ (no forward slashes though)

If I manually correct the path every time before continuing the downloads everything works fine.

I am using the latest JD2 version: Revision 47450

Test with the relative path Downloads as download directory. Then it should be work.

I didn't think of that. Unfortunately that doesn't work as well.

If I put in Downloads as download folder in General Settings under Ubuntu it correctly converts it to /mnt/data/Programme.Windows/JDownloader 2/Downloads. Likewise it correctly converts it if I put it in under Windows to P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader\Downloads in Windows.

But when I then switch the OS this setting is kept as it is, leading to downloads to the wrong paths.

If I put in ./Downloads in Ubuntu it completes to /home/chemo/Downloads though.

How do you mean this?
Are you trying to use the same config of a Windows-JD under Ubunto or vise-versa?

I have a single JD installation that I use in both OS. I think it uses the same config file(?) in both systems. If I change the download path in Windows it also changes in Ubuntu an vice versa.

The problem is that it doesn't save the path as a relative path. It just completes it to an absolute path that doesn't work correctly in the other system.

If I type in "Downloads" as (relative) path in the General Settings section as download path in Windows and then restart JD, it is changed to P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads. If I then start Ubuntuit still says
P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads in the General Config section, but is actually used as /home/chemo/P:\Programme.Windows\JDownloader 2\Downloads.

I'm sorry but JD / the config system is not ment to be used in this way.

You will either need one installations, two config files and a script which will provide/rename the needed config file before each JD start or you will need to use two different JD installations resulting in two separate configs.

Our configs are made to be re-used / imported/exported but they will not magically adapt paths from OS1 to OS2.

If that's so I am going to propose the feature of relative download paths in a ticket.

This might work if you're using "real" relative paths but those paths like "Downloads" will get converted into full paths, loosing the first entered "/Downloads" or whatever string.

Other teammembers might be able to answer this more accurately.
If you got a strong desire to use one shared config with multiple OS, you will probably find a way to change that string before each download-start using a different script for each OS.

Currently it's not possible to have "real" relative paths and such a change would be more complex/time consuming than to further work on existing GeneralSettings.convertrelativepathsjdroot to include other settings like:
-default download folder
-folder history entries
-maybe even packagizer rules

But maybe *real* relative paths may be easier than it looks on first sight, then this might also be an idea
