Default which java version recommend ?

hi,

in the beginning, there have been some issues with different java versions. for example if PC runinng 24/7 with JD2, it crashed after some days due to memory overflow or something like that.

currently i am running 7u51, and system runs rock stable.

is it safe to upgrade to java 8 ?

Yes should ba okay to upgrade to Java 8.
If your JD crashes again, consider posting your log here.
Do you have a lot of links in JD (more than 50 000)?

in the early days of JD2, there had been some issues with memory overflow, which causes system crash on 24/7 running after a few days. later this had been fixed, atm system runs fine - but with meanwhile outdated java version.

due to this story, i am asking about experiences with java 8 before i update.

and yes, i keep a big amount of old downloads in an "archive" folder of JD2 to avoid double downloads - much more than your number.

How many exactly?
As said, JD can now keep more links but it will still get slow when adding "too many" links - I don't know how "too many" is defined exactly at the moment - of course it also depends on your hardware.
