Smile Free space indicator

Hi,

Is there a way to display a small indicator inside the JDownloader interface for left over space in the download location?

Tools like transmission or sabnzbd have indicators like this and I consider them really useful.

Thanks in advance,
IG

Hi,
at the moment we do not have such a feature and I'm not exactly sure how this should be easily possible because:
- Every package could theoretically go to a different download path / harddrive with different "Free Space Left" values
- Network drives may return wrong "Free space" values

Any ideas?
How do the other mentioned software applications display this information?
Screenshots?

Hi, thanks for your time

Transmission and sabnzbd have a default save location. Since JDownloader has that too (default download path), you could use that. I think, that's the only way, to make this information actually useful.

Otherwise marking this information per package would be cluttering the interface. Although doing it as a column in the Downloads view (which is turned off by default) could be an acceptable compromise.

There won't be a solution for wrong stats from network shares. But that shouldn't be a developers problem, as long as the application is fetching system information.

@IlliterateGod: I can either add a progress bad (for free/used space) as a column
or add it to tooltop to download directory column.
What way would you prefer?

Since the tooltip (I hope, I understood correctly) is only visible when changing the directory or adding links manually, I wouldn't put it there.

I think a column in the "Linkgrabber"-View and/or the "Downloads"-View would be a good idea.

That way, if you add for example +1000GB of links in a few packages, you could easily see the size of the package right next to the remaining available space.

Since you have the information, you could also add some kind of warning for the projected event of a disk filling up before finishing.

I'm sorry for the latency and
thanks for your patience

@IlliterateGod: By tooltip I mean the "mouse over" when you hover the mouse into the cell in table.

Ah, you also want to visualize the *not yet downloaded files* too?
I thought you just want to have sort of progress bar with used/available diskspace, maybe the *reserved for current ongoing* downloads. But when I understand right, you also want to show the pending/todo links within that bar too?

Well no. I just meant the remaining space at the moment (at the now state) and not the projected/estimated disk usage after the download would finish.

I think, you can leave this bit of math to the user and I think it would be quiet difficult to summarize the size of unfinished downloads and the other packages in the Linkgrabber-view. Especially, if for some reason Jdownloader couldn't fetch the size when adding the links, which still happens to me sometimes.

@IlliterateGod: okay, perfect so the question remains, would a tooltip/mouseover be enough or you need it as an extra column that only shows information on package level?

@Jiaz: I personally really need it as column, because I'm using JDownloader in a VNC Session with **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff** .

I simply can't see tooltips. I opened up an issue with the project: **External links are only visible to Support Staff****External links are only visible to Support Staff**
But I don't know, if this can be solved at all.

Generally I think, that it's not my position to bid or demand things in a way that solve only my problem. This way I'd say, a tooltip should suffice the purpose completely. It's not cluttering and based on the value of the information, and that such a feature hasn't been requested until now, I'd consider a tooltip the best way of implementing the feature.

@Jiaz: Overview panel in the bottom toolbar might also be suitable.

@IlliterateGod: a progress bar with used/available and maybe absolute/percent numbers in progress text or more information?

@mgpai: yes, good idea, but it should not use up much gui space, maybe just a small number/text to show x % free or similiar?

@mgpai: I thought the package/link overview. DownloadOverview is not possible if you have multiple download destinations selected, what to show then ?

@Jiaz: Was based on OP's suggestion to use the default download path, which would mean only a single location.

Information important here is the free space. Displaying it in a column would mean repeating the same figure (free space) in each row. Another option would to provide a user setting to display only free space of default location or include free space across all connected drives as an aggregate.

In any case, I thought i'll suggest it just in case you hadn't considered it already.

The problem with this request is similar to this request.

I wonder what the best solution would be.

This one should not be a problem. Possible to also add to package comment with a script.

Correct, so my idea was either to place that information into tooltip
or into the package/link properties panel at the bottom (NOT the overview)

In that case I'd go for the absolute value of free space in GiB. But I feel like it'd litter the interface with too much redundant information

At the moment I'm a huge fan of @mgpai's mockup. I don't know if this is easily doable, but maybe you can put a tooltip on that indicator for explanation, so the usual idiots don't show up, complaining about interrupted downloads.
