I messed up and renamed two different files to the same name in the same package. Both file has different in file sizes.

The 2nd file has the status of 'Finished(Mirror)' but the strangest thing is that the 2nd file Filesize also inherited the file size of the 1st.

Rename 2nd file in jd to its original name resulted in renamed the actual downloaded on the harddrive thru file 1 url.

might need filesize check to actually know for sure both files are the same not just the name.

You can do exactly this.
Settings --> Advancved Settings --> generalsettings: mirror detection decision
--> Change this to FILENAME_FILESIZE

Please keep in mind that this may result in other issues as most websites will only provide unsafe filesize information e.g. "10.8 MiB".
For services with an API which often provide filesizes by bytes e.g. uploaded.net, this will work great but the majority of all services only provides unsafe information.

In the cased described what is safest tolerant for: Settings --> Advancved Settings --> generalsettings: mirror detection file size equality

I do notice some duplication files listed as 10.80MiB vs 10.79MiB - no problems here with the default setting.

The incident I had was, 1st file is 204.50MiB vs 2nd file is 242.23MiB. So it is not even close. And why 2nd file of 243.23MiB was set to 204.50Mib to match 1st file size on the 'Size' column?

I don't think it even gets checked under auto, reason for the resizing ? No idea, guess jiaz would be best to answer that.
