@jiaz better to force JD to use system Java?
running JD with
Oracle Corporation - Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment - 1.8.0_25(64bit) Usage: 1.14 GB - Allocated: 1.75 GB - Max: 10.67 GB (-Xmx12g at JDownloader2.vmoptions file) better to force JD to use system Java (latest version jre-8u231-windows-x64.exe) ? @jiaz |

remove the jre directory within JD install path then JD will do that.
reason its provided is its portable (assuming you are on the same os), you don't need system wide java available or present. downside is update is not maintained, as jre is provided by installer and not update system.

I uploaded a screenshot of the error message. The only way to start it now is via the JDownloader.jar. But I can't put the .jar on my taskbar for quick access. Is there any way to get this functionality back? I remember using it on my previous Windows Install with the JDownloader2.exe and the latest Java installed on the system. |

The old launcher was 32bit only and only works with 32bit system java. You can either directly launch JDownloader.jar or reinstall JDownloader with 64bit launcher, see https://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2

Thank you very much!
I reinstalled the "Download Installer (x64, Java 1.8)" Download and renamed the "jre" folder and it works now. The .exe now uses the up to date version in Windows. |
