Default 2 copies of many downloaded files

In many cases I get two copies of downloaded files, the second one with "(2)" suffixed to the filename. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick. Any body else experience this or has an insight? It might be a hardware issue as my trackball is getting flaky and sometimes sends two clicks when I only press it once, with results that vary. If this is the cause, it isn't obvious to me where the extra click (which I can only infer from an ap's response) is taking effect.

Thanks. It's already set to skip. It doesn't do it every time. Maybe one time in 5. Probably something to do with my flaky trackball. Does that seem plausible?

the filenames are not touched by your trackball maybe during extraction process or so?

@davidinnes

Your trackball might have launched 2 instances of jD and the other instance might not have the skip option set. It's unlikely but trackballs can never be trusted.
